"Ouch," Cyrus said as he tried to duck down so the students from his school wouldn't see him. The car had tinted windows, but he wanted to be better safe then sorry.

He could hear the faint, distinctive sound of Rosie talking excitedly with one of her friends and he smirked as he ducked further into the backseat.

The passenger door opened and he saw Rosie lift herself into the car seat before leaning out and pulling the door shut.

"Hi mama!" she said excitedly as she threw her white backpack into the backseats. Cyrus quickly dodged the bag and rolled his eyes at her obliviousness.

"Hi Rosie. How was school today?" River asked as she leaned across the center console and kissed her daughters forehead.

"It was good. My art teacher brought me a candy bag for doing my work so well."

Cyrus clenched his jaw at the mention of her stupid art teacher who he noticed always showed a little too much interest in his Rosie. The art teacher was young and always got Rosie gifts for passing his quizzes with flying colors and putting so much effort into her art. She was his obvious favorite and Rosie was naïve to his special treatment.

Cyrus didn't have the heart to tell her that she was getting special treatment because then she'd feel her art wasn't good, which it was.

She loved art and treated it as seriously as she did her English which would benefit her more in the long run.

"Uh, mama?"

"Yes?" River replied as she pulled out of the schools driveway.

"Is Cyrus okay?"

Cyrus smiled to himself and tucked his face into the neck of his hoodie so he wouldn't make any noise.

Rosie's delicate fingers slid over the material of her school skirt. "I know he's sad because he didn't hear me calling him this morning. Why's he so sad?"

Cyrus silently thanked River for not answering her question. "He's doing better now. You don't have to worry."

"Well, we should go pick him up so we can take him for sushi or something."

He smiled and not being able to hide anymore, he sprung up and stuck his head between the car seats. "Boo!"

Rosie screamed and slapped him in the head before bursting into a fit of happy giggles. "Cyrus!" she squealed. "You scared me!"

He laughed and peppered kisses all over her face and he tickled her tummy, ignoring the awkward position he was in. "Hi Giggles," he beamed as he grabbed her face between his two hands. He hadn't used the nickname in a while and it felt strange saying it.

He had made it up when she had spent a whole day giggling about a picture of them she had seen when they were babies.

"Hi prince," she giggled as she touched his hands that were on her blushing cheeks.

She had given that nickname to him when he had dressed up as a prince for character day and he insisted that she was his princess.

"Hey, sit properly you two. The police will pull us over."

Cyrus suddenly froze up and quickly pulled back and slammed himself back in his seat.

"Rosie, is you're seat belt on?" he asked quietly as she stared at him weirdly.

He looked down at her seatbelt and he felt himself begin to panic, his heart raced in his chest. "Rosie, put on you're seat belt."

"Can I come bac-"

"F~cking now Rosie!"

She flinched back and he immediately regretted shouting at her when he noticed the hurt in her icy blue eyes.

"Woah Cyrus! Watch you're language," River exclaimed as he slowed the car down to make a turn.

He gulped audibly as he watched Rosie slowly slid back down in her seat with a small thump.

"Rosie, princess. I'm so sorry," he rasped as he felt his heart rate slow to a steady beat.

The car came to a stop and he looked out the window at where they were. It was one of his favorite sushi places that carried the freshest fish. The salmon basically melted in his mouth and none of the fish tasted fishy. It reminded him of his parents and when they'd catch and cook the fish right after so they'd get the freshest flavor.

He didn't feel in the mood. Not today.

So when the two girls got out, he got out too. But he didn't walk towards the sushi restaraunt like they did, instead he ran. He ran and ran until his lungs and calves hurt. He ran, hoping to get away from the sadness that consumed him. But rather than running from his problems, he ran right into them.
