Guys, Xu Yang is the MC! Sorry if I confused you 😭 I just wanted to make him mysterious.

After observing the scene for a couple of minutes where it looked like he was in extreme gloat, Xu Yang's head tilted down, unknown as to what was going on in his head. Qing Wu on the other side looked confused at the whole situation. Gu Mei who was terrified and was suffering due to the traumatic scene of her husband's death, noticed the presence of the young group of cultivators as her face scrunched up in agony. The blue veins in her forehead almost popped out. Her voice screeched through everyone's ears,

"Where were you all this time?! Your duty was to protect the villagers, not wait until they were dead to show up! How can you be so irresponsible?! Is this what the so-called "righteous sects" do?! I knew you inexperienced brats would never be able to catch the murderer. Why are you all quiet?! Answer me you bunch of good-for-nothing fools!"

Her dark orbs were directed at Qing Wu who was now at a loss for words because it was indeed due to his carelessness that the old man had a sinful death.

Inexperienced?

Yes... It was indeed true. He was a prodigy but not a veteran like Qing Zhao, his cousin who had solved several murder cases and was famous in the cultivation world. Qing Wu's generation regarded Qing Zhao as the number one cultivator among the righteous sects. He would always lead him. But this time he wanted to do things his way and everything ended up in a mess. He shouldn't have gone forward and requested to solve this case.

He felt ashamed and stupid. Especially when he regarded himself highly only to be looked down by others he felt his heart becoming sour. What's more, this was his very first mission he was sent to solve alone as a senior where he had to guide his juniors. How could he face his juniors when they had admired him so much only for him to end up as a failure?

Gu Mei got onto her feet with the aid of her conscious maid who had vomited earlier while the other was still laying motionless on the ground. The old lady hastily walked in front of Qing Wu and raised her hand to slap his cheek. Qing Wu knew he deserved it therefore he didn't want to dodge the hit and patiently waited to be slapped by the woman.

Xu Yang caught the delicate wrist with his soft grip as he walked in-between them, "Woah there granny! I believe its not wise to act rudely in front of someone who would risk his life in order to save people."

Gu Mei was flabbergasted because she was still in her 50s and yet looked charming like a woman in her 30s. She never expected anyone to call her "granny"!

"You know, no ones perfect. Everyone does mistakes. It wasn't on purpose. On the other hand, don't you think everything turned out well?" Xu Yang spoke nonchalantly.

"Turned out well?! What exactly turned out well, you crazy man! My husband and son are dead! My daughter-in-law has lost her mind! How can you say that everything turned out well?" If Gu Mei had a knife she would have already stabbed Xu Yang on the stomach. Without her son and husband how could she run the household? Her husband had taken care of the finance in the house and her son would visit the cities to buy the ingredients for the herbal tea sold in the tea house. She did nothing other than making the tea! If not for her husband and son this household would not exist!

"Okay look." Xu Yang began with his serious tone and continued,

"Your husband, wasn't he already at the age he was supposed to die? What's the difference in dying a little earlier? Didn't he fall sick due to his son's death? I heard his condition was critical. I guess it was good for him other than having to suffer for months or even years. With that age he wont be able to go back to how he was before. Also isn't it more troublesome if you had to keep on paying his medical bills and taking care of him for the rest of your life? It will only make it harder for you to survive. But everything turned out well in the end."

"WHO LET THIS DERANGED MAN INTO MY HOUSE?!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. If she wanted to stab him earlier, now she wanted to decapitate him. How could she let this shameless man humiliate her in her own house!

"I'm only stating the truth." He shrugged.

Not long after Gu Mei passed out due to high blood pressure. It was possible for her to have a panic attack in a situation like this. Making her angry was the worst case scenario. Qing Wu's eyes narrowed at the thought as he had a glance at the calm Xu Yang. What is he trying to do?

Xiao Ming was thankful towards Xu Yang for stopping the lady from slapping their young master but he didn't appreciate how Xu Yang bluntly spoke to the lady about her husband's death when he was supposed to comfort her, "Is something wrong with your head?"

"My head? Why? It feels better than it ever was! Is yours okay?" Xu Yang's head tilted to a side.

Xiao Ming: "..."

Qing Wu shook his head as he let out a sigh, "You did something wrong Xu Yang. Also you didn't have to stop her from slapping me. I deserved it."

Xu Yang remained silent for a few seconds as the temperature of the room gradually dropped with each second almost making everyone choke to death. His previous ignorant behaviour was replaced with a cold aura as he stood still making everyone shrink back anxiously as he spoke the words calmly yet clearly,

"...I do what I want. No one shall tell me what I need to do, nor no one shall judge me. Don't make me repeat this again."

Qing Wu and the rest of the cultivators froze and their breath stuck on their throats. Not because of what he said but the tone. It sent chills down their spines all the way up to their brains engraving the fact in their minds- Never Raise Opinions About Xu Yang's Behavior! Despite being a "commoner" he sure gave them a good scare!

"I will tell you this one last time. So listen carefully... You're still learning yourself. No ones perfect. Mistakes can happen and so let it be. Do not fret about it even if it had taken one's life. Because it was never intentional. You've done your best with your uttermost effort and continuous hard work. You must thrive to become better with each passing day. Challenge yourself. The more you do so the lesser mistakes you make. It's time you start standing up on your own rather than having to rely on another. You will fail once but you stand up. You will fail a second time but you must stand up again. The third time, you still do the same. You will tend to fail but never give up. So that one day you will stand above everyone else shining brighter and brighter..." Xu Yang paused before finishing as he snorted, "Though easier said than done."

"..." Couldn't you be more convincing!

"So what do we do next?" Qing Wu interrupted as he saw Xu Yang in a new light. This person reminded him of his father. Somethings he said made sense while the rest didn't. However Qing Wu knew that Xu Yang was trying to comfort him.

"Your asking me? How should a commoner like me know that? You are the "great" cultivators here!"

"..." Is he mocking us?!

Xu Yang hummed as he replied thoughtfully, "Just do what you were planning to do. You'll figure things out soon. Very soon..."

He had a quiet glance at a corner of the tea house where a shadow which seemed to have thought no one noticed but was actually seen the moment he entered the tea house. The shadow was hovering stealthily looking his way seeming to be intimidated by him.

"I will be coming for you..." He mumbled as the shadow trembled before vanishing from Xu Yang's sight.

A/N: Xu Yang shall remain a mystery. So Guys help me out here! Let's say Xu Yang and the Demon King were a couple. Who do you want the uke/bottom to be? Ahem I'm just asking to verify something! Doesn't mean that they are a couple! Well who knows if they are! Lol... 😋
