It was roughly a week after your father and uncle confirmed you as the newest emissary for France's final negotiations with Goryeo.
You were sitting on the windowsill in your chamber, alternating between glancing over the poetry book in your hands and gazing out your window at the city beyond the castle gates. However, you were barely paying attention to either one.
As your departure date approached, you had a more and more difficult time thinking about anything else. Your body practically tremored with excitement and nervousness day and night.
The rest of your maids were sitting on chairs while embroidering sheets and gossiping vigorously.
"Princess," one young woman called out and you lazily turned your head in her direction.
"The court is still buzzing with the news of you leaving for Goryeo in a few days," she told you.
You sighed as you closed your poetry book, "Not a surprise. Those wealthy bores have nothing to do other than latch onto rumors since they have nothing else to do with their lives."
"I heard the news has leaked out into the city and many civilians were talking about it, as well" an older woman chattered, "Soon all of France will know."
You nodded silently. When it had to do with royals, news did move around the country quickly.
"Many men in the castle are arguing sending a woman as envoy is an outlandish move by the King and Duc," another woman sneered snidely without looking up from her sewing, "Even more so that you are a princess."
Sending her a glare you also replied cockily, "Well that is because no man could get the job done in the first place. In my opinion, negotiation should be left to women in the first place."
But the woman was right.
A woman traveling to a country a thousand miles away to serve as a political liaison was unheard of. The fact that that woman was also a princess was even more bizarre.
This caused many in the castle to question the King's judgement for many reasons. Some were nervous about your safety, but many men believed a woman was not able to handle such an important dealing with a far eastern emperor.
"I'm convinced she isn't going for politics sake at all," the same woman mocked once again, "I think she's just interested in getting a glimpse of the legendary seven princes."
Irritation brewed in you at this woman's gall to scorn a princess. And her audacity to imply you were frolicsome for seven men... but maybe it was true? But you definitely not going to let her know that.
Just as you were about ready to reprimand her, Lady Foy burst through you chamber door.
"Princess (Y/N)!" she practically sang as she floated across your room.
