Once the lady's maids had you cleaned from your journey, they assisted you in dressing into a fine burgundy velvet dress.

You insisted on your hair staying free to fall down your shoulder and back; you hated bundling it up to be hidden in a tasteless cornette or hair net as was the current fashion. Your father also preferred to having your auburn locks on full display, saying it reminded him of your mother's own wild red mane.

You were itching and antsy to leave the room and meet your family by the time the last touch of your ensemble was added. A gold circlet crown.

Straight afterward, you rushed out from your room into the royal throne room where your father was waiting.

Walking through the familiar, dark grey halls brought back memories of your childhood. When you were young you did not rush off often to country castles, but you would stay here in the Paris palace with your father and six older brothers. You remembered wildly running down the corridors with the rambunctious boys while laughing and screaming with each other until you were all caught and scolded for being so reckless by all of your respective caretakers.

You smiled at the thought of your brothers, hoping at least some of them would be waiting with your father.

When you arrived outside the throne room in the center of the castle, the guards standing by the large wood door bowed deeply before opening the entrance. As you elegantly strode into the hall, you were announced proudly to the large audience of the court that was present in the chamber.

"Your highness, Princess (Y/N)."

People gasped excited as you entered. Men eagerly eyed you and women tried to hide their scrutinizing gazes. Many of them were either whispering amongst themselves about you or loudly welcoming you.

"Welcome back, your highness!"

"It is so great to have you back in Paris."

"You are positively glowing, Princess."

You nodded and smiled to acknowledge the people who had greeted you to be polite, but your real objective was to get to the back of the hall.

Passing by everyone, you moved directly to the large, gold throne sitting in the back of the room and the man sitting on it.

He was poised regally atop the royal chair and dressed in fine red robes. A wide smile grew across his face and his hazel eyes sparked as he watched you come directly to him. His brown hair was only slightly greying and large golden crown sat upon his head, encrusted with precious jewels.

You returned his smile as you tried to restrain your legs from running toward him, "Father!"

He stood from his throne and took a few steps to meet you with an enveloping hug. As you were tucked in his arms you heard the court murmuring. It was not usually acceptable for someone to greet the king in such a manner. Even your brothers had to bow and address the sovereign formally as "your majesty" without touching of any kind.

But all these rules were broken for you. The king's adored only daughter and shining jewel of his life.

Both of your finally pulled away and you beamed up at the man as he stepped back to admire you.

"My beautiful daughter," he spoke in his strong, booming voice while gripping your hand and placing a gentle kiss on your knuckles, "My dear, sweet Princess."

"Has Uncle Audric arrived back from the far East, father?" you asked excitedly.

"He indeed is," he smiled back, "He is resting before we all dine alone tonight, along with your brothers Aleran, Matelin, and Jachet."
