"Mom, I'll be okay. I'm going slow." I say calmly into my phone while shoving a turkey sandwich into my mouth and slightly swerving from my lack of ten and two technique.
"I'm late for school, I've got to hang up now."
My eyes flicker at my rear view mirror and I turn into my high school parking lot, wiping mustard off my mouth from my now, non existent breakfast. My mom has always been a little too protective of me but ever since I started driving she has called me every five minutes to make sure that I haven't driven myself into a tree and then a lake.
I toss my phone into my backpack, and screech into a parking place.
I glance at the time before turning my car off.
Ms. Peters is going to wring my neck.

I push the door open to my anatomy class very slowly and peek in. Bingo her back is to me!
I walk in and stalk to the back of the classroom.
"Ms. Adams, you are eight minutes late."
I jump out of my skin as her icy voice hits my ears. The whole class looks up from their work.
Damn, so close.
"I'm sorry Ms. Peters, My car wouldn't start this morning." I say knowing that even if I said that I got hit by a car it wouldn't matter.
"There are no excuses in this classroom, if you are late you get detention, those are the rules Ms. Adams."
"Yes ma'am."
I sit in my plastic chair and dread the day to come.
