"Sophia, you know exactly how and what to do when you're on the ice, you know everything you need to win. Now go out there and make it happen." Yakov encouraged me at the rink side, while I stood on the rink, in my white sparkly outfit, and my hazel brown hair in a tight bun.
It's the final round of the Women's Junior Grand Prix Final, and I'm going against so many talented skaters. I'm nervous, but excited. I know I can win, so I have nothing to fear.
"Soph! Davai!" I turned to the crown, seeing my rink mates cheering for me in the crowd. Victor, Georgi, Mila, and there's Yuri, but he looks grumpy and silent. I gave them a thumbs up, before turning back to my coach.
"Deep breaths." I nodded at Yakov, taking deep inhales, before realizing I needed to go now. "Good luck." Smiling reassuringly at my coach, I nodded my head at him. "Don't worry Yakov, I'm gonna win."
With that, I skated off, raising my arms in the air while gliding around the rink as I presented myself to the audience. "Next up representing Russia, Sophia Moroshkin!" Morooka announced.
I'm in Russia, full of supporters. I can win. I'm going against Italy's Martina Russo, who's topped her personal best with 173.05 points overall. It's going to be challenging to beat that, but I can do it.
I stopped in the middle, taking deep breaths. No need to be nervous Sophia, you can do this. You won last year, you can do it again. Victory is right in front of me, and I need to be the one to grab it.
For my opening position, I covered my face with my hands with my arms together. "She will be skating to, A Time for Us from the movie Romeo and Juliet." As the music started, I began my free skate. First is a technical sequence where I need to seem sad, and lost.
This is Romeo and Juliet after all. My first jump is a combination. "For her first jump she planned a high difficulty combination. A triple toe loop, double loop, and triple salchow combination."
Landing the jumps without hesitation, the crowd cheered loudly. There it is, that's what I like to hear. "Brilliant execution, no hesitation whatsoever." Of course, I'm confident in my jumps. "Next up is her signature move, a hyperextended biellmann spin."
Entering a layback spin, I grasped my free leg with both hands, bringing it above my head, with it being held straight up. Everyone clapped and cheered even louder. "Incredible speed in that spin. If she keeps this up, she might even be looking at a personal best."
Of course I am, I'm Sophia Moroshkin after all. I'm gonna win, I have to. I'm the only one who can win for Russia for the women's junior division.
"Next up is a triple axel. Despite her talent, she's only been able to land this jump around twenty percent of the time in practice. If she lands it, she'll be the first Russian female in history to land it in competition. Let's see if she lands it."
I've always under rotated when I do this, but I need more speed. That's all. I can do it. Getting ready for the entrance, I took off, the incredible speed made it incredibly difficult to breath. I'm feeling doubt in myself. Before I knew it, my skate landed, but not in the right way.
Before I knew it, my side made contact with the ice, and pain rushed to my ankle. My body glided across the cold surface, while I heard gasps from everyone.
"Moroshkin has taken a fall! It seems we might have an injury!"
I winced loudly, struggling as I sat up right holding my right ankle that felt like it burning. I felt like crying. Not only because of the pain, but because I just lost my chance at the gold, not only that, at the podium. The music stopped, as everyone was in a state of shock.
