Kinda short but it's something. Yeah I'm really not all that happy with this but I wanted to write it. Rusty and Klaus are kinda my brotp and I wanted to write something about how Klaus could finally trust someone. I promise some Kol and Rusty only chapters are coming up.
Rusty could claim many things. Being able to stand a long road trip was not one of them, and Kol was quickly finding that out. The boy couldn't keep his eyes on one things, and he went from reading on his phone, playing a mindless game, singing along to the radio and trying to make idil chatter. None lasted very long and Kol was beginning to loose his cool.
"Darling, I find you wonderful but if you don't stop switching between activities every five seconds I'm gonna knock you out," Kol finally said and Rusty smiled at him.
"Okay, okay, so have you ever been to Denver?" Rusty asked him, his head pushed back against the headrest and turned towards the Original who smirked.
"Surprisingly, no. I have heard it's fun though," Kol said and Rusty grinned widely.
"You'll love it," Rusty told him and Kol glanced at him with curiousity.
"You've been?" Kol asked and Rusty shrugged with a small smile as he gazed out the window, remembering his time in Denver.
"Klaus and I met in Denver," Rusty admitted, wincing slightly at his memories of the time. "I was in a dark place, so was he. Found out our demons got along quite well."
"Why'd you leave? Hard to believe you would leave your family for my brother, not with how loyal you are," Kol asked, wondering how a boy so loyal could leave his flesh and blood. Rusty glared at the blurred scenery they passed.
"The only family I have is Klaus," Rusty said and Kol could sense that was the end of the conversation, no matter how much he wanted to continue it.
-
About 30 minutes out from Denver, Rusty got a phone call from a very familiar number. "Hello, Nikole," Rusty greeted his friend cheerfully, he could hear the laughter of the female Mikaelson in the background and the eyeroll he knew his friend did. "Don't you roll your eyes at me, Grumpy Wolf." Another female laugh rang through the phone and Rusty knew his friend smiled at that one, he always did when Rusty called him out about eyerolls over the phone. Klaus liked knowing there was someone out there who knew him so well, well enough to know what he was physically doing when they couldn't see him. That someone paid enough attention to know what would trigger his reactions and which reaction would be triggered.
"How close are you Denver?" Klaus asked and Rusty leaned back in his seat more than he already was.
"30 minutes, max. Then we go accidentally run into Jeremy, offer to buy him a drink in appalogy and oh what do you know, we get along great and suddenly we are best buddies," Rusty said with a large grin, glancing at Kol who smiled back at him. Both powerful males were excited for their job, it meant toying with someone, protecting themselves and those they cared for and staying out of harms way for the most part. Plus Kol got to spend time with Rusty, and he wanted to seduce the witch.
"Sounds perfect," Klaus said and Rusty could see his smirk practically.
"Perfect leverage," Rusty corrected and Klaus chuckled.
"True, brother, true," Klaus said, causing Kol's eyes to widen while he glanced over at Rusty in shock. There were very few people that Klaus considered family he didn't share blood with. Actually there was one, but he died in a fire many years ago. Even then, Kol didn't know that Klaus rarely called Rusty brother, it always sounded wrong to him. A brother is someone who he puts in a coffin, who betrays him at one point or another, who is never satisfied with him but puts up with him because of blood. Rusty was never that to him.
Rusty was someone who he could call in the middle of the night and get an immediate response. Who he could go to needing help and always get it. Who he could tell his plans to and not be afraid of backlash. Someone he could trust, and perhaps the only one he could trust. So no, brother never did seem to fit what Rusty was to Klaus.
"Well then, we will call you back after we befriend Jeremy. Now go back to scheming, we don't have a lot of time to waste," Rusty said and Klaus chuckled before they said their goodbyes and hung up the phone.
"You two trust each other. He trusts you more than I've seen in a thousands years," Kol commented, glancing at him from the corner of his eye. Rusty shrugged.
"Took a while, but we got there. He will trust me as long as I don't give him a reason not to, I don't plan to ever give him a reason not to trust me," Rusty admitted and Kol smiled.
"Sounds nice," He admitted and Rusty looked at him. "Never had that, was never really close with my family and was never really out of my box long enough to be close like that with anyone else."
Rusty was many things, and easy to open up around was one of them. It was obvious by Kol's confession. Rusty was one other thing, too. Understanding. So when an original vampire told him he had never had someone he could truly trust before, his eyes softened and he said, "We can be friends than, and maybe if you like me enough you can trust me."
Kol gave him another surprised look but Rusty just smiled. Kol smirked and shook his head, "Pretty sure you don't want me, I'm a bit of a devil."
Rusty just smiled and shook his head, "Angels always bored me anyways."
