It was the last quarter of the championship game. They were tied 7-7. 2 minutes and 30 seconds until the game would go into overtime, unless they gave it all they had.
Samantha was tired. They are playing a tough team, full of big guys that trash talked any second they got. It was their 3rd down, 30 yards from a touchdown. She knew that her school needed this win.
They were a joke. When she joined, everyone loved to blame her for all their faults and mistakes, that was until she won the first game in two years for the school, things changed after that. The guys respected that she was a girl and that she was one of, if not, the best on the time.
Last year had been her first year on the time, they had lost playoffs last year, and she swore that she and her teammates would when her senior year. Is they trained. They trained harder than ever before, Sunday thru Thursday with a game every Friday night. They worked on tactics, what worked and didn't work for their team. They worked on bonding, making sure that they understood each other, which also meant that Sam was more accepted into this group of rowdy boys. By the time summer was over and football season had started, the joke of a team was one not to be messed with.
You can do this, I know you can.
She could hear her voice in her head, it soothed her and allowed her to focus on what the plan was rather the team that was about to lose.
Three, two, one...
She was off, her long legs giving her an advantage to run as fast as she could and side step everyone in her path. She ran like she never had before, with a fire inside her, one that was warm and dangerous and vibrant. She looked to where the QB was, protected by their teammates, not for long though. She glanced to see what was around her, one clear spot between two players that led to an easy way to the touchdown line, she snapped to look at the QB, Jack, he had the same idea. He turned and ran with a player by his side, and Sam dashed to the spot as Jack throw the ball in a perfect spiral down the field.
Sam saw it coming and she turned, this is it, and she leaped.
everything was silent, only the rapid beat of heart was heard as she grabbed the ball and landed, at least to sam. she ran, knowing there were two players ready to tackle her, she pushed. knowing that her reputation and college scholarship was riding on this, she pushed. knowing that everyone was counting on her, she pushed. but she also know that no matter what, she would always have support from her, thats was drove her home. She jumped over the line bypassing the players trying to stop her.
When she opened her eyes all she saw was red, red shirts and signs, red jerseys, red pom poms, everything red, especially someone's red lips. With about 45 seconds left on the clock, Sam made the final touchdown that put the thorns in the lead. She did it, Jack ran and pulled her up and into a hug.
"Sam!!! You did it!"
"Not without you."
"Bro," Jack put his hand over his chest.
Sam smiles and put her hand on shoulder, "Bro."
The laughed and lined up for their extra point. Their kicker was actually not just a football player nor a soccer player, a dancer for most of his life that had the strongest legs that Sam had ever seen. He never missed.
They won of course, but nothing really mattered to Sam as the crowd rampaged the field. The announcers going wild, everyone was shocked and excited that for the first time in years, Samwell Thorns won the football championship. The team itself was crazy, lifting Jack, Sam, and Kenny, the kicker, in the air. They dumped water on their couch and fed off all the attention from the crowd. But Sam, she was looking above the crowd until their eyes met. She smuggled out of the crowd and ran to the center field.
"We did it!!"
"You did."
"Well I couldn't have done it without you."
Sams eyes lit up at the sight before her.
Amelia.
Amelia with her long, soft and silky auburn colored hair pulled up in a high ponytail that swayed side to side as she walked. Amelia with her smooth, hydrated fair colored skin. Amelia with her short legs and curvy hips. Amelia with her warm, honey colored eyes and bright red lips. Amelia with her perfect smile. Amelia with Sams old and too big on her jersey that swallowed her up, tucked in jeans that hugged her thighs and butt just a little to tight. Amelia with her beat up red chucks that had #17 written with a heart. Amelia who had a necklace that had the letters a and s on it. Amelia who had had Samatha wrapped around her finger.
Amelia.
Amelia jumped into Sams arms as she spun her around both laughing and smiling. Sam stopped before they got dizzy and held in tight to the back part of Amelia's thighs.
Amelia has her arms wrapped around Sams shoulders, their foreheads together.
"You played amazingly out there."
"Its all thanks to you babe." Amelia blushed, like she did everytime Sam called her the pet name.
"You should put me down. You've got to be sore."
She was right, but Sam wasn't letting her off that easy.
"I'd hold you forever if I had too."
Amelia rolled her eyes, "Well you don't. Put me down."
Sam shook her head, "I don't think so."
Amelia raised her perfect eyebrow, "How about I give you a little something for winning and you put me down so we can eat out hearts out?"
"What's the little something?"
Amelia pulled Sam closer if it was possible. "How about I just show you?"
That's when their lips met. There in the middle of the football field. There amidst the crowd. There amidst the judging eyes. They kissed like they needed each other to survive, almost like they did. They kissed like it was the first time, a hint of nervousness and a lot of feelings. They kissed until their lips were red and lips were puffy, Sams eyes fluttered open to meet pools of golden sun in the eyes of the girl who shined light in her world.
this is it.
this was always it.
"I love you."
"I love you more."
"Not possible."
