No....there's no way this could be happening, she was way to fabulous for this. That was the thought swimming through Delta's head as she looked at the dress that had once been white, now a sickening shade of yellow. She knew she shouldn't have put that orange sock in the washer! But the mistake had already been made and there was no going back. She'd have to settle with her second choice. A different white dress, this one had a netted top and long flowing bottom. She pulled it up over her body. Looked in the mirror and tugged the top down to show off more cleavage. If she was going to be chosen to die, she was going to be fabulous while it happened. There was no excuse for not being gorgeous at all times. She admired how her ginger hair fell around her face complementing her ocean blue eyes and perfect smile. She tucked her necklace into her dress and slipped on her six inch heels. She left her bedroom and walked down the stairs so gracefully it looked like she was floating. She flashed her gorgeous smile at the butler before he assisted her with her coat and she stepped out into the chill of the afternoon. She gracefully made her way to the beach and took of her heels. She used one hand to hold her shoes and used the other to lift her dress as walked in the sand one last time. She loved the way sand managed to soak up heat, even in the colder seasons. A familiar figure emerged from the waves and made it's way towards her.
"Delta, shouldn't you be on your way to the reaping?" He asks. Delta smiles at him and shrugs delicately. Every movement she made was thought out with grace.
"I had to say goodbye to you first didn't I Bass?" she asks. "Besides, every citizen has to attend the reaping, even if they're not of reaping age anymore. Considering that, I thought you could walk with me." Bass grins and extends his salty arm to her. She takes it and together they make their way down the beach and to the Justice Building. When they reach the row of sign in tables they turn to each other hands connected. "Well, this is it I suppose."
"Yeah...I guess i'll see you later," Bass replies sadly, looking down at their in-twined hands.
"I hope so, and if not...promise not to wait up. No one as handsome as you should be forever single," she jokes.
"I promise, but I won't ever forget you." he say's in a voice that would make any girl gladly drown themselves per his request.
"I know you won't Odair," she smiles one last time before putting her shoes back on and disappearing into the crowd. Bass watches her go, a slight ache in his heart. The happy, bright, beautiful girl he once knew was gone. And though he didn't want to admit it, most likely forever.
After being checked in Delta made her way into a line, everyone separated for her as she passed. Once everyone was in place and settled, the ceremony began. District 4's escort Cleo Roslen started off with a speech, followed by a video the Capitol had put together. Then to the surprise of everyone, she went over to the boy's bowl and chose a slip. She opened the slip as she made her way back to center stage and announced that the male tribute would be Beta Micheal. Delta felt a slight twinge in her heart. She and Beta had gone to school together since they were kids, they had also been in the same swimming class. However, she quickly pushed these feelings aside, fixed her hair and straitened her dress. In the short amount of time that took, Cleo had already made her way back with the other slip. "Delta Reef!" she exclaims. Delta calmly makes her way to the stage and takes her place next to Beta. "Congratulations tributes, we wish you the best of luck!"
Delta lets herself be led into the building by the so called Peacekeepers. Delta knew that she was going to be reaped as soon as the games were announced. Her father was a large contributor to the rebellion and President. Perses was not a fan. Delta sat in the room provided. She let her hands run over the Velvet and watched the Crystal chandelier shine rainbows around the room. 'How do people as amazing as me end up in such terrible situations.' Delta wonders to herself. No one came to say goodbye to her. There was no one to say goodbye to that she hadn't already parted with. After 5 minutes of listening to her own thoughts. She was led out to a shining silver train. She boards it, being careful not to step on her dress. She takes a seat on one of the leather couches and waits for Beta to arrive. When he does finally make an appearance, he immediately goes to the room he's been given. Delta brushed of the rude gesture and places it as him being upset. The doors of the train close and the train takes off with such delicacy it gave Delta a run for her money. A woman in a raspberry colored bodysuit sit's down next to Delta and offers her a warm smile.
"I wouldn't mind him. He did just get reaped into a fight to the death you know!" the woman says.
"Oh, I wasn't really minding him much to begin with," Delta replies with a far-off focus. She was still thinking of Bass. His hair, that was the color of the sand she loved so much. His smile and the way it shimmered like the water. His skin, tanned from all the time in the glinting sun. Growing up, she had always told her mother she was going to marry him. Her mother always responded by telling her she didn't doubt it for a second. But now those times seemed a distant memory as the only place she had ever known was left far behind her.
