"It was a complete waste of time!" You complained to your best friend, Hyolyn. "He always does this! Does he not trust my decisions?"
She giggled into the phone. "You know how your dad is. I'm not surprised he stopped your date, why are you?"
"Because I-"
"You know what comes with being the daughter of a police chief. Your privacy is gone and he watches your every move. Not to mention all the sexy guys he scares off..." she interrupted.
You groaned, dragging your body along the sidewalk. "I know! It's not fair! My life sucks! I didn't ask to be his only, youngest daughter! How does he expect me to grow into a mature responsible woman?"
"Speaking of which... how is that fine piece of pie you call brother?"
You sigh and roll your eyes. "Hyolyn... he is okay, I guess. Following in our father's footsteps."
"You are lucky to be so close to him."
"How am I lucky? If it's not my dad that's spying on me, it's my brother."
"Oh come on, y/n. You know they are just looking out for your wellbeing. Crime in the city has increased and the last time I checked, you're no cupcake. Your family is just worried about you, that's all."
"I guess you are right. Anyways, I'll be on my way over so we can go shopping."
"Cool! See you in a bit."
You hung up and checked your surroundings, looking for the quick way back to your car. You cursed yourself for parking so far away from the restaurant. Cutting through an alley, you walked along the rocky pathway. It was windy outside forcing you to cling your jacket to your body. Besides the sounds of the wind, it was quiet out. The kind of quiet that gave off an eerie feeling.
As you walked, you spotted two guys talking. One was a cop and the other was dressed in a really fancy black suit. It seemed like nothing out of the ordinary, that is, until the man in the suit voice escalated and he reached in his waistband. When you saw the gun, you quickly ducked behind the nearest trash bins. Your heart was beating a million times per second as you listened to them struggle. You peaked around the bins to see what was happening. The man in the suit had the cop on the ground on his back. The cop had his hands up in defense, pleading with him not to kill him. The man said something you couldn't make out and then it happened. He raised the gun and fired three bullets into the cop's chest. You jumped, shutting your eyes and covering your mouth as the loud popping of the gun echoed in the air.
You silently cried into your palm, trying not to draw attention to yourself. You had just witnessed a murder. What were you supposed to do now? Should you come forth and rat him out or remain quiet. But how could you not say anything, the man just killed a cop for goodness sake! You became frantic as a million thoughts ran through your mind. But the instant ringing of your phone made your blood run cold. You searched your purse for the device unaware that the man had heard it and knew somebody was there. You found your phone and shut it off, placing it back in your bag. You were scared to move but decided to once again peak around the bins to see where the man was.
This time you came face to face with the barrel of the gun. The man had it pointed directly at your forehead. He looked young, maybe in his twenties with dark hair. You figured he wasn't your average guy in a black suit but possibly a mobster. At that moment, you knew you were dead. Your family would have to bury you in a closed casket. Nobody would ever hear your voice or see your face again. Your face overflowed with tears. You were afraid to move or speak.
