CONFRONTATIONS

The next morning Raman woke up with a heavy head. He shouted for Ishita when Mrs. Bhalla came in with a glass of lime juice.

T: Ishita nahi hain puttar.

R: Kyun kaha chali gayi subah subah?

T: Apne amma ke ghar.

Raman remembered last night's argument. He wanted to know if other family members knew about it.

R: Ohhh! Kuchh kaha usne? Woh kyun gayi wahan?

T: Ruhi ko school ke liye ready kiya and she just left. Tayyar bhi nahi theek se. Kaha ki uss Madrasan ke ghar ki tayyar hogi.

Raman drank the juice in a go.

R: Maa, I need to see her. Mujhe usse abhi ke abhi milna hain, main jaa hoon amma ke ghar.

Saying this, he rushed out of his room and was about to enter the Iyyer house when he saw Ishita come out. They shared an intense eye lock. A drop of tear was about to fall out of Ishita's eyes when Mani came out of Iyyer house.

R: Tum yahan; itni subah subah?

M: Haan, Ishu se milne aaya tha. Woh kal raat usne phone pe bataya...

I:(cuts him) Don't explain Mani. You are my best friend and you were worried about  me due to the way my husband treated me yesterday. So tum milne aa gaye.

M: Maine kabhi nahi socha tha Raman tum aisa sochte ho Ishu ke baare mein. You really disappointed me man!

Though Raman was angry due to Mani's interference in their personal life, he could do nothing than hanging his head down in shame. After Mani left, he wanted to talk to Ishita but she shrugged him off and was about to go back to her house when Raman pinned her to the wall.

R: Main kal se sorry bol raha hoon, maan kyun nahi jaati?

I: Yeh apology hain ya dhamki?

R: Kuchh bhi samjho! Magar remember that I am sorry for what I said and did yesterday. Toh iss baat ko itna kyun badha rahi ho?

I: Yeh baat bohot chhoti lagati hain aapko? Mujh pe infidelity ka iljaam lagana bohot chhoti baat hain right?

R: Tum ne harkate hi aisi ki!

I: Ohhh! So aap ab bhi mujhse complaint hi karne aaye hain? Waise I would like to ask something. Kya maine kabhi aap se koi sawaal kiya? Aap to kitni baar Shagun se milte ho jo aapki ex-wife hain, aapka pehla pyaar hain. Par main kabhi sawaal nahi karti because I trust you, but you just don't. (cries)

R: Ro mat yaar, please. I am sorry! Mujhe gussa aa gaya tha uss waqt. Aur ab bhi aaya uss Mani ko dekh ke, lekin maine control kiya na. Toh mujhe please ek mauka aur de de.

I: Gussa, my foot! Kis baat ka gussa haan? Mere life ke faisle mein loongi aap nahi. Na aapko gussa karne koi haq hain aur na mujhse sawaal karne ka.

R: (grits his teeth) Mujhe haq hain, pyaar karta...

I: Enough, kisi bhi baat ko pyaar ka naam mat do. Maine aapko kal hi bataya ki main Ruhi ki maa hoon. Aaj use ready kiya aur apne ghar wapas aayi. Aap ka aur mera aur koi waasta nahi hain. Mani ne sahi kaha tha ki aapse pyaar karna meri sabse galati thi. Mujhe yeh rishta Ruhi tak hi seemit rakhna chahiye tha.

R: Ohh! Ab yeh bhi Mani tumhe batata hain?

I: Haan, kyunki woh mujhe aap ki tarah shaq ki nazaron se nahi dekhta. Meri baat samjhta hain.

R: Ishita, maine sorry bola na, mat lamba kheech na itna.

Without a word more, Ishita pushed him off and went inside her house, slamming the door on his face. Raman was guilt-ridden and very sorry but couldn't voice it out properly.
