-:-:-:-:-Heart hammering inside her chest,
her own breathing echoing in her ears.Hands clenched into tight fists at her sides, sweating inside the gloves of her armour.
Jesse's eyes were locked on the golden gauntlet in front of her, it's glow reflecting in her eyes. This was it. The weapon she's fought so hard to get to.
Finally she could end this all.Jesse took a deep breath, readying herself to step forward and take the gauntlet.
"Well." She said, swiftly exchanging glances with Petra and Jack on either side of her. "Here goes nothing."
She turned back to the gauntlet, reaching her hand out to it. Her fingers milimetres away from touching the golden object.
And then it vanished.
Jesse's fingers grasped at thin air as the gauntlet suddenly disappeared in a puff of golden particles. She let out a short gasp, stepping back in surprise. Her brown eyes wide, staring down at the empty spot where the gauntlet had been a mere second ago.
"Thought it would be that easy, eh?"
All three of them swung around on the spot, hearing the familiar voice. Jesse's gaze meeting that of two, blood red eyes with sickly yellow pupils.
"Romeo." She said through gritted teeth, hearing the sound of both her friends unsheathing their swords.
A smirk formed on the Admin's face, as he slowly floated downwards till he was levitating a few feet in front of them. Jesse subconsciously felt for her sword.
"I must give you credit, Jesse." Romeo said, folding his arms over his chest. "You do put up quite the fight, that's for sure. It's a pity you went all this way-" He took a dramatic pause. "-for nothing!"
"You haven't won yet." Jesse said firmly, pulling out her own sword and immediately getting into a defensive stance.
"Yet." Romeo said with a chuckle, shaking. "Oh, you're right Jesse, not yet."
He lowered himself down, till there were barely a few centimetres between his feet and the ground. Jesse didn't back up, standing her ground as his gaze burned into hers.
"It's over, Jesse. There's no point in trying to fight me any longer."
Words, they're just words. Jesse tried telling herself in her head. The gauntlet couldn't have been the only way, you can still take him down somehow.
Jesse didn't care that her diamond blade was useless against him, she still raised her sword at the Admin – ready to fight.
Romeo only chuckled darkly at this gesture, raising one hand. Jesse took a deep breath, almost waiting for him to zap her out of existence. But instead, both her friends disappeared into thin air, leaving nothing but a few floating particles in their place.
"Petra! Jack!" Jesse gasped, looking around with a bewildered expression planted on her face. It quickly morphed into a scowl as her attention was set back on the Admin in front of her again. "What did you do to them?!"
"Oh, Jesse." Romeo said mockingly. "Jesse, Jesse, Jesse... So worried about them, when you're the one in trouble here."
Jesse felt a sudden grip on her shoulders, like an invisible rope was being wrapped around her, restraining her arms to her sides. Her sword slipped through her fingers, uselessly clattering against the floor.
Romeo levitated higher into the air, lifting Jesse up with him. She tried tugging her arms free, her legs beating the air slightly. She glared at Romeo, refusing to back down even as she was trapped in his grip.
"You really don't give up, do you?" Romeo asked, a touch of amusement in his voice.
"I'll die before I give up." Jesse hissed. "You'll never get away with what you did to Beacontown, with what you did to my friends!"
Romeo let out a somewhat maniacal chuckle. He leaned slightly forward, lifting Jesse's chin so she was forced to look at him. She resisted the temptation to spit in his face.
"We'll see about that, hmm?" He said in a low voice. "Because Jesse, even you can be broken."
With those words he pulled back again, letting go of Jesse. He raised one of his hands, snapping his fingers.
And then Jesse too disappeared, leaving behind nothing but a few purple particles.
