"The map." I say. "The woman said there's not a street that is left out from it." I dig through my bag, clutching onto the paper as I hand it to Xavier. He opens it immediately, eyes scanning over the streets.A shiver flows through my bones causing my eyes to look to the dark blue sky. We probably have an hour of daylight left, if even that. I clutch Hana's side as we depend on each other's heat.
Xavier looks in our direction, sliding our bags to us. "Put on something warmer. It's only going to get colder." He glances to Hana. "Hana be sure to double up."
She nods, hands shaking as she unzips the bag. I sigh, grabbing a long sleeved shirt of mine and slide it on over my other shirt. I then put on my jacket, looking for a thicker pair of socks to slide on. I find thick gloves and reach them to Hana. "Put these on."
Daniel only watches us, eyeing the clothes, his back straight. He wears a thick coat, the Call of Duty shirt having a long sleeved shirt under it. His eyes meet mine. I snap my teeth in his direction.
I find my phone, eyeing the two bars at the side and swallow my spit to do away with the dryness in my throat. I promised myself I wouldn't to h my water until I absolutely needed it. I don't know how long we may stay in here.
I dial my dad's number. He answers immediately.
"Hello? Asher?" His voice is urgent.
My phone is snatched from my fingers. Xavier brings it to his mouth. "Pierce, this is Xavier. Asher and Hana are with me. We are currently okay. They have about ten here and we've been ran into the woods on the outskirts of town." He glances over the map. "We plan on going to the Hud Ring- where the old streetfights used to be held. It's about eight miles out and we should make it by tomorrow night."
He glances to me. "Yes, she's fine. Her and Hana are doubling with their clothes right now. It's going to get quite cold." He pauses. "Yeah, she's adapting well. She's killed two of them." A pause. "With a gun."
Suddenly, dad is on speaker. "Asher, can you hear me?"
"Yes."
He sighs. "I'm coming. Your mom is safe. I will be there in the morning. Promise. I just want you to know.... You're trained. You got this. Don't ask questions just kill and go. Don't trust anyone. Don't hold back, show then what you're made of."
I hold my breath, looking at the phone. Seconds pass. I sigh. "I gave Hana this exact speech already and I know." A pause. "I guess I'll get to go all the way this time dad. I don't have to stop like during practice."
"Exactly. Protect Hana. Send them all to hell. I'm killing them all when I get there."
I nod though he can't send me and Xavier goes back to speaking into the phone. Daniel gawks at me.
I pull my clothes closer to me and look to Hana. "Can I borrow your phone?"
She nods rapidly, throwing the phone into my hand. I press a certain contact.
The phone call is answered. "I'll kill-"
"Asher Knight." The sentence cuts off.
"Asher."
I clear my throat. "They've attacked the bus. Hana, Xavier, and I are in the woods. They're searching and are no doubt targeting Xavier. We've killed four so there's only six or five left...."
