Brielle was sitting in her room, playing her light brown guitar. She was singing one of her original songs as her family went out for ice cream. You don't know, what the pain felt like. You don't know, what my heart felt like. It was breaking, shattering and you just walked by. You promised me the world, yet promises you don't keep. You were slowly losing me. Was I out of my mind? Was I that desperate for your company?

Her door was opened abruptly, breaking Brielle from her musical spell. She looked up, only to see her older sister, Emma, standing there with a look of annoyance on her face.

"Dad wants to know if you want ice cream," Emma said.

Brielle shook her head, "I'm okay."

"Great." Emma turned and left, without closing the door behind her.

Brielle sighed, shook her head, and stood up to close her door. She shut the door and her phone started ringing. She quickly went back to her bed and looked at who was calling her. Her best friend's name was flashing on the screen. Brielle immediately  smiled and answered the call.

"Brielle!" Bella yelled into the phone causing Brielle to pull the phone away from her ear.

"What? Are you trying to make me deaf or something?" Brielle asked. All she heard was Bella's laughter through the phone.

"Sorry," Bella giggled. "You are coming to my birthday party tomorrow, right?"

"Of course!" Brielle replied. "I wouldn't miss the day you turn 18 for the world!" Brielle exclaimed.

"What did you get me?" Brielle heard a car pull into the driveway, so she knew her family is back with their ice cream.

"That my friend, is a surprise, but listen, my family is back. I gotta go."

"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow then. Bye!" Bella replied, cheerfully.

"Bye!" Brielle replied.

Brielle tossed her phone on her bed and stood up, wanting to know what all the commotion was about in her kitchen. She opened her door and stepped outside, seeing part of her family. She walked into the kitchen to see her family with take-out food instead of ice cream. She looked at the time on the wall clock and saw that it was passed 8 o'clock. The food was their dinner and Brielle doesn't have anything for dinner.

"Hey guys," Brielle began wearily. "What happened to the ice cream?"

It was silent. Her family was just staring at her.

"Um. . . we decided to just get some dinner instead," her older brother, Jacob, said with a guilty look on his face.

"What am I supposed to eat?" Brielle asks.

"Sweetie, there are leftovers from yesterday's dinner that you can warm up and eat," her mom, Melissa said.

Brielle looked around at her family. Her dad, mom, and four siblings. She was the youngest at the age 17. Her sister Emily was 20, Emma was 19, her brother Jacob was 21, and Josh was 20.

Brielle just nodded and crossed her arms. There was an awkward silence in the air. Brielle leaned against the wall behind her and watched her family. They just stared at her like they were waiting for her to leave so they can eat peacefully. Brielle got the message loud and clear. It is a message she has received often from her family. She just granted their wish as she walks off towards the fridge. She hears the rustling of food bags and can hear them chewing.

Unbelievable, Brielle thought.

She opened the fridge, in search of food, but the fridge was absolutely empty. Brielle looked up at the ceiling and sighed. She closed the door and walked towards the front door. She put on her boots and opened the door.
