When I woke up, I was in my own bed with the covers pulled up to my chin. Someone must've carried me back to my room while I was asleep. Morning light spilled through my window, creating an intricate pattern on my bedding. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I could tell it was early, the stillness of the house gave it away.
I pulled myself out of bed and shuffled downstairs. Sleeping that deeply for so long made me feel refreshed, but waking up so damn early made me drowsy.
When I got to the dining table, I sat down and raked a couple fingers through my hair. Despite the shower, it was still almost as silky as my prep team had left it.
"Can I please have some eggs?" I asked an Avox who was standing nearby. She nodded politely and went to cooking some in the mini kitchen. I wonder how long she's been here, and what time she woke up. If it were any time before my time, I felt sorry for her.
A book on the table caught my eye. While I waited, I opened it up and decide to read to pass the time. It was weird, though. I couldn't understand any of the words in it.
After five minutes of unsuccessful reading, Siren came prancing down the stairs.
"I smell some eggs!" she sang, and danced over to me. How the woman can pull off being this excited in the morning without coffee blows my mind. Must be some sort of Capitol magic.
"Good morning Annie!" She kissed the top of my forehead, which creeped me out and lightened my mood at the same time. Siren caught sight of my book. "Annie, I didn't know you could read in Spanish? ... Or upside down?"
I looked at the book. "I can't."
"Oh. Well then," she took the book from my hands and got me a new one in English. "Read one you can understand."
She danced over to the Avox and stole and egg from her frying pan. It provoked a fiery look from the Avox, but Siren did not seem to notice. "Mm-mm! Delicious! I'll be back down when they're ready. I have to go get dressed!" She dashed back upstairs. I knew she was loud enough to probably wake everyone up.
I put the new book down and got some coffe. I drank it up slowly, letting its warmth flow and heat me up. Better.
Suddenly, droning dizzily down the stairs, half awake, was Darcy. She still had her eyes partly closed. She looked like a zombie who got hit by a truck. I cut her some slack, though. I'd look like that, too, if I had to deal with the prep team everyday. I sipped some more of my coffee, thankful I have some.
"Morning".
She opened her eyes and yawned. "Morning, Annie," she said sleepily. It was no doubt Siren woke her up. That girl was an alarm clock.
She shuffled over and took a seat next to me. She had her eyes closed again. Her head began to tilt in a circle, and then she rested it on the table and lie motionless.
"Darcy..?"
I heard a snore come from the little cave she made with her hands round her head, and realized she liked to sleep in. I sighed and droned back upstairs, leaving her with my coffee. She needed it more than I did.
I went back to my room where a training outfit was layed out on my bedspread. It was a District 4 uniform. It reminded me that today I go and train with the other tributes, and then get evaluated individually for a training score a few days later.
Oh boy.
I slipped into the tight thing and went back downstairs, wanting to take back my drink. At the table was now everyone but Jayda, who I'm guessing refused to wake up. Mags was sleeping on Darcy's shoulder.
But my prep team was awake and alert, of course, and were already doing my hair and nails the second I reached the table. They barely touched my face with make up. Dallas was still in his PJs, though he looked quite alert while watching me.
"Alright, Dallas, finish those eggs. You don't want to be late to training," coached Giana.
I just sat down and finished my coffee. I still needed to wake up a little bit, too.
