Have you ever been told, that because you're so intelligent, others around you seem really really stupid to you?
No?
Okay.
Well.  That's just one of the many things that happened to me. The name's Kuerite, and if you're wondering why my name sounds like I dropped outta Mars......
Sorry, I can't help ya because I don't know myself.
Let me begin at the top.

It all started when I was doing what was simply, normal. Well. To me.
Rummaging through a trashcan in an alleyway may not be normal to you, but for me its simply survival. Make do with what you get and deal with it.

I'd looked up, feeling watched. Yeah sure. Sure enough.
A younger man and woman stood a distance away, the blonde woman stared directly at me, a look of disgust in her eyes. But she doesn't bother me. None of them do anymore. You get used to it after a while. Three years to be exact.
I've been doing this for three years, ever since I was 9.
My mother, whom I'm ashamed and sad to say I could hardly remember, left me in a diner across town from where I am now. Sooner or later I guess the guy in charge of the diner got tired of my crying and removed me from the diner.
At that point, my most powerful urge was the find my mother. I'd looked for her , for a long time. Nah, that doesn't come close to how long.
Eventually, my littler self became so tired and pained from looking for her that is stopped at the side of the road, removing my shoes, the feet had blistered long ago. We can leave it at that.
But it doesn't really still tell you how long I've looked and searched.
That's because I was still looking today.

A pitched noise made me look up.
Ah, shit.
The blonde woman was on a phone, the male she was with was walking over already, I met his eyes.
Once I did I didn't need to understand any further, it was obvious. I have no wishes to be handed over to Child services.
They have a set picture and view of how things are supposed to be.
Needless to say I don't fit that picture.
My eyes searched, so I bolted into an alleyway that divided into two other alleyways. One was leading eighth into a public street, right around the corner from where the couple had been, it wouldn't work. I'd looked to the other side, finding....
.....Well its better than nothing.
A garbage chute. Y'know, a door with a weird handle.
I'd charged into it, wincing when it squealed like a pig, trying to give me away. I glared at the chute lid, climbing into the chute. Luckily, there's a handle on the inside.
I have no time to wonder why, because the male and his blonde bimbo showed up.
My knuckles on both hands holding the handle turned  white.
I could see through the crack between the door and the cement. I could see out of it, and I wasn't liking what I was seeing.
A Child Services van pulled up on the alleyway entrance from the corner, out stepped two people. One a woman, the other a man.  Both of them had darker hair, the woman had grey eyes I could see from here, the male had a dark brown.
The woman moved faster than the male.
" You called in about a strange girl that had dark red hair and white eyes?"
The man with his bimbo turned to her nodding as he replied, " Yes, me and my fiancé saw her rummaging through that trashcan."
I could barely make out his finger, pointing to the general area I had been at.
The women who came out of the van held her own face of urgency, "Thank you, we'll take it from here".
Yeah, I'm sure you will.
Then.
The couple walked away, and the man who accompanied the woman from child services, I could hear him whisper, "The chute."
Funkelpants.
I could see the man pointing in my general direction.
But I always have an idea, y'see.
I waited until the sound of the man's feet crunching stray rocks got closer, and I leaned out of reach in the chute. But not out of view. As this monkeybutt was going to find out he hard way.
The chute door was yanked open, but before it was opened entirely, I yelled "BOO!"
Y'think it wouldn't work.
No dice, no bueno,  no cigar.
Wrong. He's gonna need new underpants if I ever see him again.
The man jumped back, uttering words loudly.
I withdrew from my ragged hoodie a rock.
And kissed Herbie goodbye. What, never seen a pet rock before? I quickly chucked it below me down the chute.
"Move, move!!" The woman had started to yell, and I heard shoes ripping on pavement, all along grinning wildly. Once I heard urgent voices below me, I moved quickly. I opened the door, climbing out, wincing as  I'd banged my leg on getting out, almost bringing tears to my eyes. I ran to the garbage can, grabbing a backpack that is claimed as my own long ago.
I was about to turn and bolt, when I noticed something that caught my eye. A large, worn down box made out of wood. I didn't think, I just grabbed it. And ran. Thankfully, it wasn't as heavy as I thought. I didn't  exactly have the time to inspect the thing, because I'd ran barely past the van, then my nose caught something too. Musta been someone's lunch.
Eh, mine now.
I'd snatched the lunch box too, snickering at the man's expression.
Then I bolted, taking a few random streets here and there, some winding alleyways.
Barreling through a few people.
Hearing them complain about  "Some people's kids," or something like that. I can't really care at the moment.
I look behind me, I see a bus that's about to make a stop across the street from me.
I don't think I just do.
This is where most go.
Wtf.
Dude, why?
But I'm not them. I'm me. And being that fact alone, I'm grinning as I run off to play in traffic.
Yey. A couple brake tires, more moaning about some people's kids...
Seriously, what does that even mean.
I'd made it to the bus stop, feeling mighty hot on my feet I looked over as I paid the fare, sure it took me a while to save. But. Looking over as I sat down, the man and woman who'd been after me, saw me on the bus across the street. The frustration in their faces was worthy of photo.
I just smiled and waved as the bus took off.
