The Wish
It's a lonely life, this one that I lead.
Popping from place to place, ocean to ocean,
like a seafarer from boat to boat.
Waves crashing over my hair,
salt ceaselessly infecting my taste buds.
With nowhere to go,
only a dismal trench to come back to.
A trench filled with dirt and debris,
and bioluminescent monsters of the deep.
It's an abomination of a home,
abhorrent to the simple pleasantries of life,
rather, it embraces a lack thereof.
Effervescent bubbles rush past my face,
startling me. A jet trail of them leads off
further into the abyss.
They are in stark contrast to the nebulous,
inky midnight of the trench
and they provide an illusory glow.
I start to follow their scintillating gleam,
and I can see a narrow opening in the distance
into which they disappear.
A current starts to rush in the opposite direction,
and I curse my tail, wishing I had something
more akin to that of a jellyfish or an octopus.
Something that I could use to propel myself
to push against the rush of water,
and the disparaging loneliness I constantly feel.
After I struggle and writhe for a few seconds,
trying to get closer to the opening,
the current suddenly dissipates.
Instead, a gentle stream guides me
in the direction I wish to go
like a benevolent hand on my back.
I can give you all that you desire, Kifu,
and infinitely more.
I can give you the body you yearn for,
a palace, the title of empress.
All of the pearls in the seven seas,
you'll be waist deep wading through riches.
There is only one small caveat,
I need your signature.
I love this! It's so unique and the language use is so strong. Some of this fanfiction is written better than the original story. It scares me. Thank you, Paige, for writing this. It's so cool.
