I sat on the verandah, waiting for Chrissy. I wished you would hurry so that I wouldn't have to face mother. I packed a knapsack with more than just change of clothes for the party.
I didn't know where I was going, what to expect or who would help but I was glad to finally leave this place.

I rather be anywhere than this place. As I glance all over the verandah, Chrissy emerge. ' Me ready so come'.

I followed her to the gate and a taxi pull up. We got in and i breathe a sigh of relief. Glancing back at the yard I call prison, i prayed silently that I would never see that yard or my mother's face again. The taxi made its way onto the busy street of Hagley Park Road and I was glued to the window filling my eyes at the hustle and bustle of the town.

We made its way through traffic as the sun disappeared behind us. I reach for the bulge in my pants pocket, ensuring it was in place. I dozed off to sleep dreaming of the life I would live as a adult. I didn't care about school. I didn't care about Mother. My interest was to get settle somehow and sort out my life.

Meanwhile....

Tanya lay naked on her bed puffing on a  spliff. Smoke filled the room as music blast through the speakers. Her phone lit up the room but she ignored it. This is the only way to close off from the world. The only way to hide from the monster she become. She felt disgusted with herself. As much as how she tried to do better, seeing Mia brought back too much painful memories.

To be honest, she blamed Mia for ruining her life. Every year on her birthday the memories came, threatening to drown her. It felt like an old wound cut open and the pain was unbearable. It's good she left the house because only God knew what would have happened.
