EVERYONE NEEDS A HUFFLEPUFF IN THEIR LIFE.

Someone who is a loyal and fierce friend. Someone who will bring you back to earth when you need it and someone who will push you to do better than you thought you could. Someone who will stand by you no matter what.

Edgar Flynn was that to Sirius Black.

Loyal as a dog, but he would still bite him like a badger if he was about to stray from his path of light, to keep him out of the darkness that threatened to consume him.

When their friendship began, Edgar was a prefect and Sirius a marauder. They did not see eye to eye. Especially since Edgar caused him to suffer detention. That's Sirius side of the story at least.

Truth to be told, Sirius got himself that detention. Edgar just happened to catch him setting up a trap for the new-ish caretaker Argus Filch. Unfortunately for Edgar, Filch thought he was in on the would-be-prank and also got detention which had Sirius laughing for a whole week after and Edgar always blushing when he heard said laugh.

It took a few weeks before they started to get to know each other more.

Sirius found himself impressed by the knowledge and skill Edgar possessed when it came to defense against the art and they started to study together. Study time became just talking and joking around, sharing fears and dreams with each other. Before they knew how it had happened, they had both realized that they felt something more than just friendship for the other.

It would take a very strange DADA lesson for Sirius to man up and confess his feelings.

They were trying to cast the patronus charm, and as soon as Edgar had cast his, Sirius knew how the other felt. Edgar's patronus was a big shaggy looking dog.

Sirius didn't waste any time, and he didn't care who looked or heard what was being said but he took eight long strides towards Edgar, grabbed his shocked face between his hands and kissed him. Without thinking, Edgar had dropped his wand and desperately kissed Sirius back.

While most of their classmates had cheered them on, their professor was not happy and gave them both detention. But they didn't care. They knew that it was them so before they left the classroom they looked at each other and just said 'I love you' to each other.

Simple as that.

After school, the world seemed so dark. And it was. A war was going on between light and dark.

People started to mistrust each other. Even best friends turned on each other. Edgar never turned on Sirius, but he would call him an idiot when he didn't trust Remus just because he happened to be a werewolf. But Edgar would lie if he said he didn't have a small doubt about some of the people he was closest with.

Nevertheless, Edgar continued to fight alongside Sirius. They would protect each other at least. They would save each other's lives from the blows of death eaters.

But Edgar could not save him from what happened after Godric's Hollow in late October 1981.

Sirius was blamed for something that Edgar was convinced he didn't do. He could not and would not believe that Sirius betrayed his best friend, his family and then killed another of his friends and some innocent muggles.

It broke his heart when Remus believed the lies instead of looking for the truth.

Sirius didn't even get a chance to prove his innocence. He was just sent straight to a faith worse than death in many people's eyes.

Azkaban.

Edgar could not save him from this darkness. He couldn't lead him away from Azkaban no matter how much he tried to convince the ministry to let him get Sirius a proper chance to explain his innocence.

It backfired on the badger.

The ministry was tracking his every movement. Convinced he would be one of the people on Lord Voldemort's side.

The whole world saw Sirius as guilty for betrayal and murder - Edgar still saw him as innocent. He stayed loyal to his beloved, even though he had not seen him for almost nine years.

Edgar hoped that one day he would be free once again. That one day, the world would see his innocence and his light.

"I'll never give up hope, Sirius", Edgar would whisper to himself whenever the star that gave his love his name would shine its bright light in the dark night sky.
