At lunch, Amara spots Yvie and Eleanor sitting together, and looks like they were deep in conversation. Yvie had her eyebrows knit together and Eleanor had a tense expression. She was about to walk away when Eleanor spotted her in the crowd.

"Amara!" Eleanor rushes to her, hugging her. "I am so sorry. I didn't mean anything by it." Eleanor mumbles to her. Amara was taken aback but hugged the girl back. "It's fine." Amara rubbed small circles at her back.

"So, did you say yes?" Eleanor asks Amara, Amara was confused for a second but then responded, "Uh, yes. I hope it's okay with you?" Amara asks, still nervous about talking to her about Kean. "Oh, yeah definitely. Plus, I have a super hot date already." Eleanor winks at her.

"Wow. Who is it?" Amara asks her. "Lucian Andersen." Yvie says coldly as she grabs her bag and walks past by them, hitting Eleanor by her shoulder. "Lucian?" Amara asks again, the name somehow ringing a bell.

"He's Kean's brother. Kean said Lucian had the longest crush on me, so he wanted to ask me through Kean if he could take me to homecoming!" Eleanor squeals excitedly. "Then why isn't Yvie too happy about it?" Amara asks her. Eleanor frowns, "Beats me. She's been so sketchy lately. Maxwell must've put her in that mood." Eleanor says.

Amara and Eleanor sat through lunch. Eleanor kept on babbling about some gossip she heard about Lucian and Kean. But Amara didn't seem to mind any of it. She was just staring off into the distance, wondering if she had made the right decision of going with Kean. Eventually, Eleanor left her and she sat at the table, scrolling through her phone.

Just then, a caller ID pops up. It was Ashton. Amara tapped the green button and put the phone close to her ear. "Hey." Ashton's voice chirps. "Hi. What made you call?" Amara asks immediately.

"I was thinking maybe, if we could hang out? Later after class? My mum's out of town with Lauren and Harry." Ashton says. Echoing inside Amara's head was Luke's voice with the words he had said to her earlier. Michael and Ashton share the same demons. "Um, I'd love to. But I got to help Yvie with homecoming stuff later. She's short on people." Amara says.

"Maybe after that, then?" Ashton persists. Amara stayed quiet. "I'm being too pushy, aren't I?" Ashton speaks through the phone. "No, it's just, um, I was wondering if you would like to come over and help as well?" Amara's voice squeaks at the end.

She wanted answers. She was in this dark pit of unanswered questions and everybody was burying her with vague answers. She needed to know something. "You can say no, I just, I want to hang out with you too." Amara continues.

"Alright. I've got nothing better to do anyway. I'll be there at three thirty. Is that okay?"

"Yeah. It's fine." Amara replies. "Okay. I'll see you." Ashton says as he hangs up.

--

Four o'clock rolls around, Amara and Ashton were assigned to the arch. "Tell me again, how did the homecoming committee convince the students to attend a homecoming dance called, 'Fire and Ice'?" Ashton asks, as he looked up at Amara, who was standing on a ladder, fixing the lights.

"They didn't need convincing, the theme is as cool as it is." Amara says, wrapping another strand of light around the arch. "Was that a pun?" Ashton asks. "No, hand me that tape, will you?" Amara says, holding out her hand.

Ashton tears a strip of tape and places it at Amara's fingertips. "So, who's your date?" Ashton asks. Amara slowly descends from the ladder as she faces Ashton, "Kean. Kean Andersen." Amara replies, taking a step back to admire the arch. "I'm sorry, who?" Ashton asks again, like he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"Kean Andersen." Amara says. "Hey, do you think this side has more lights than this one?" Amara asks him, motioning him to look at the arch. "You cannot go with him." Ashton says to her cautiously. "Like I can't talk to Michael?" Amara retorts at him.

"I'm serious, Amara. The guy-"

"The guy's dangerous, and then I ask how, then you say you can't tell me, it's too dangerous. I've been down this road before." Amara sighs exasperatedly, as she climbs the ladder again. "Can't you trust me on this, Amara?" Ashton licks his lips, looking up at her. "You wanna talk about the trust? You're the one keeping things." Amara says, not even looking at him.

"Amara, I need you here!" Yvie yells from across the room. Amara glances at her she walks down the steps. "I'll be back." Amara says to Ashton as she walks to Yvie. Ashton sighs, as sets down the tape dispenser. "Uh hi. Sorry to bother you. But do you know where-"

Ashton turns around as he comes face to face Kean. "Ashton Irwin." Kean smirks. "Kean." Ashton's jaw clenches as he says his name. "I really hope you're not taking away my date." Kean says, cockily. "You stay the hell away from her." Ashton takes a step forward.

"Or what?" Kean says in a challenging tone. "You gonna bury me too?" Kean continues. Ashton's expression softens. "I know what you did, Irwin. If you even try to talk to her about the slightest thing about me; I will tell her everything you did." Kean spat. "Kean!" Amara arrives at the scene.

"Hey. I was looking for you." Kean says, turning to Amara. "In Ashton's eyes?" Amara jokes. "Kean, this is Ashton. Ashton, this is Kean." Amara introduces them. "We've met." Ashton says coldly. "Um, anyways. I came to ask what's the color of your dress? Just so I can match my tie with yours." Kean says sweetly to Amara.

"You don't have to." Amara says to him. "I want to." Kean smiles sweetly at her. "I'm wearing a silver blue beaded dress." Amara says. "Something to tone down the fire?" Kean asks, tucking a strand of her red hair behind her ear. "Can't wait to see you in it." Kean winks at her before walking off.

Amara looks at Ashton who was still shooting Kean daggers. "You good?" Amara asks him. "Fine." Ashton smiles weakly at her. Amara nods before heading off to do more work.
