Chapter 1 ~ First day back

"welcome back to school everybody!" an unfamiliar teacher spoke to a just as unfamiliar class. "is there anybody new in our class this year I wonder?" he asked peering over at the tutor group. His eyes landed on me.

"ahh! Christi Woods I presume?" yes sir, you guessed correctly, I wanted to reply. Instead, my shy side took over and I nodded in answer.

"would you like to come up to the front and introduce yourself?" no. I would not. But I knew this was a rhetorical question so I stood up shakily as I made my way to the front.

"hi," I croaked nervously. "my names Christi, as you've already been told. I just moved from Asia aaand..." was I meant to say that I'd already lived there? Yeh I'd better. "before that I lived here and went to Orchard Primary school".

Several people let out gasps as they heard this. A girl with curly brown hair and pale skin raised her hand slowly, her eyes never leaving mine.

Not even for a second.

"I remember you!" she stated. "we grew up together and you left in the middle of year 4 and never told anyone why!"

Ha. Ha. Ha. Yes... That is true. No one knew why we left until half a year later when my dad rang the school saying we had left for military reasons. I didn't even know why we had left.

"yes" I replied. "i don't even know why we left so suddenly. It just happened and I didn't even know about it. I'm sorry." I apologised.

"may I sit down now?" I asked the teacher politely. I made my way back to my place which was next to a tall guy with floppy blonde hair. He looked disappointedly round at me.

"you don't remember any of us do you?" he whispered. It's true; I didn't. But just as I was about to say something, he interrupts. "Our class has stayed exactly the same since the year you left. Unbelievable!" he leaned back on his chair and rubbed a hand through his hair. Who was this boy? As if he read my mind, he answers.

"I'm Kyle Reed by the way, seeing as you don't remember. We used to be science partners?" suddenly I got a sharp pain in my head as though someone was sticking in a few more missing jigsaw peices. Memories of him reappeared. Oh my gosh! He'd hardly changed.

Apart from the fact that he was taller (and his hair had grown), Kyle was identical to his 8 year old self.

"No no! I remember! We worked on a project where we had to grow a bean, right? And - and we used a bunson burner for the first time together!" I never knew it would so good to have those memories back!

"so you do remember! Your not as self centred as you appear then. That's good because you know, I have good memories of you from primary school." he looked... Sad?

Nah, the facial expressions are unidentifable.

"do you remember anyone else?" he asked.

"no. I - I don't. Sorry." I replied. Yet again, he looked at me disappointedly. I felt like such a bad person.

Wait - I am a bad person!

"how about..." he looked unsure before he said the next bit, "you spend some time with me and I'll introduce you to all your old friends?"

And that's when I received the most shocking piece of my memory.

I used to go out with Kyle Reed.

How do you like it so far? Please comment!

Is it a bit more exciting than the prologue?

I'm finding a bit confusing writing in passed tense but I'll soon fall into it. Is it confusing though? Should I put the next chapters is present tense? I'll do whatever suits you readers. Sooooo comment about that as well.

Shout out to my friend Ela who is gottabefearless

She's the one who inspired me to write my own stories for Wattpad. Before that I only read other peoples' stories. Thank you Ela!

Hope everyone had a good holiday!

And one last thing...

I will be keeping on with this story but not one of my other two. Which one should I delete? More people seem to be reading The Orphan and the Jerk. Please comment on that as well!
