The moon's bright light peaked through my eyelids before I opened them to a semi-dark room. It was my old bedroom. The air felt heavy coursing in and out of my lungs with every breath I took. It was almost as if a part of the house had been dropped into space with little to no oxygen levels.
I gave my eyes time to adjust in the dim light by closing them for a few seconds and reopening them over and over again. When I found myself staring up to a dark grey ceiling, I picked myself from the mattress of the bed with a large huff and checked my own body.
All human limbs seemed to achingly be in place and my outfit had been returned to a neat position over my body. Looked like my mother had gotten a little over OCD when she decided to fix my hair into a neat little pile of brownish-reddish locks on my head. She scraped my bangs from my eyes and forehead while I lay unconscious and she neatly did my tie over my shirt.
I sighed as I looked into the mirror and ruffled my hair a little, untucked my button-up shirt in the front and slipped on my shoes. It took me a few moments to realize that Amelia stood somewhere along these hallways in this house and I had no idea what condition she was in. My darling could've been bleeding and I wouldn't have been there to stop it because I was more focused on my appearances than what I was on anything else.
Where had I gone?
I had lost myself.
