My father fixated me with a serious glare. "So Natasha, did you do as we said?" I looked at him straight in the eyes, scared, and curious. I decided to tell them the truth to see how they would react to me choosing a different faction, we've never really talked about it.

"The simulation was different than the one you described to me" I informed my parents. My father's eyes filled with rage and he slammed his fists on the table which caused me to jump in my seat.

"That bastard Roy must've changed your test" He yelled angrily. I knew who he was talking about. Roy Caulville was a few positions lower than my dad but they were in the same initiation group and were constant competitors. They both despised each other and Roy has always tried to knock my father from his leadership position. My father turned to look at me "you still got Erudite as your result right?" I looked down in defeat. There was no point in lying to him, he and my mother both had access to the test results so they would find out what I got even if I lied about it.

"No, I got Dauntless" I whispered as I stared at my hands, my voice quavering as I spoke. My father collapsed into his chair and my mother put his elbows on the table and held her head in her hands.

"You. got. DAUNTLESS!!!" My father screamed. I winced at his tone but sat frozen in my seat. My father pressed his fingers to his temple. Suddenly he looked at me again. "Heres what's going to happen Natasha. You are going to choose Erudite at the ceremony. There is no option. You will get up at the ceremony, draw your blood and place it into the Erudite bowl." I felt fire through my body as he spoke. I hated it when anyone commanded me to do things, especially my parents. I looked up at my father and saw nothing but disappointment in his eyes.

"But, father the test told me-" I started but what cut off.

"I DONT GIVE A FUCK WHAT THE TEST TOLD YOU!!!" My father screamed and slammed his hand across the glass vase on the center of the table sending it flying into the wall shattering upon impact. He placed his palms on the table and leaned in until his face was only a few inches from mine, "you will choose Erudite" he whispered before turning away and marching out of the room, my mother following him not looking at me even once. I sat in the chair for an hour just staring at my hands with tears streaming down my face before I got up and walked back up to my room. As I passed my parents bedroom I could hear my father snoring, I don't know how he could sleep because I know that I will not be able to. I walked into my bedroom and closed the door behind me sliding my back down the door until I was sitting on the floor. I pulled out my phone and saw I had 7 text messages. 6 from Thalia, and 1 from Luke. I opened Thalias and read the messages.

T: Lol why was your mom in such a mood

T: Btw you never told us what your result was!

T: Sash cmon tell me! I'm so curious!

T: Hello?? Girlie answer my texts

T: I just told my parents that I got Erudite and they were so happy!

T: Ugh just text me back whenever you read these

I swiped out of my conversation with Thalia and went to open my conversation with Luke, I would respond to Thalia later. I opened Lukes message and read.

L: Meet me at our spot at 10 pm.

I checked the clock in my room and saw it was 9:50 pm. I stood up and made my way to my window and climbed down the side of my house. My entire house was wired with a security system including the windows, but when I was 6 I figured out a way to disable the system from setting an alarm on my window so that I leave it open as I slept because I liked the cold air, but now it comes in handy for sneaking out. I quickly walked to our meeting place and saw Luke already waiting there for me with a goofy grin on his face.

"Hello princess!" He exclaimed as he pulled me in for a hug. I hugged him back but as soon as I stepped back and looked into his eyes I started bawling. "Wait! What! Sasha! Oh no, what did I do! I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!" He rambled on as he pulled me in for a tighter hug. I buried my head into his neck and just kept sobbing while he kept reassuring me. Once I regained my composure I stepped back and sat down with my back against the tree and he sat next to me letting me lean against him.

"So whatd you get?" I asked Luke curiously wanting to not focus on me for a bit. He turned and looked me in my eyes and I could tell he didn't get Erudite.

"I got Dauntless" he whispered into my hair. I immediately sat up and turned to look at him with shock. I mean, it isn't super surprising because Luke has always been very brave and wasn't afraid to throw hands with someone, but it was still a little shocking.

"Are you going to choose Dauntless?" I asked

"Honestly Sasha, I really dont know. I want to so badly, but I know my parents wont be able to bear it if I left. They already lost my sister." I responded stiffly. I caressed him arm in comfort.

"Luke, do it." He turned and looked at me with surprise.

"Wow Sash didn't know you wanted to get rid of me so badly," he said feigning being offended. I let out a chuckle.

"No, you stupid boy, choose Dauntless because you and I both know that's where you belong. Your parents will be fine with it, they're the most caring, nice people I have ever met and you and I know that all they want is for you to be happy whether it's in Erudite or Dauntless. They might be upset that they won't be able to see you every day like they usually do, but they're going to be so happy that you're where you belong." I smiled at him and he pulled me closer to him.

"You're right Sash." He whispered

"I'm ALWAYS right!" I teased back. He chuckled and started questioning me.

"So why were you crying earlier?" He asked curiously.

"I didn't get Erudite and I told my parents," I responded. I felt his body tense up.

"Oh no, how did they react?" He asked carefully

"Well, my mom didn't say anything at all, she just looked sad and upset. My father was angry, he broke a vase and told me that I have no option in the matter and I have to choose Erudite at the ceremony no matter what I want." I explained. Luke leaned in and kissed the top of my head.

"So what faction did you get," He asked. I looked him dead in eyes and responded.

"Dauntless."
