The coffee shop was buzzing, filled mostly with college students savoring their last 2pm mornings. Eva and I were among them, and I can only imagine how much espresso was shipped in, due to the fact that the first day of classes was rapidly approaching.

In these past few days, Eva and I were coming to the conclusion that we were a lot alike. We both had dark brown hair, though hers was down to her waist and mine to my shoulders. We both had dark brown eyes, though mine had a green-ish tint and hers had more of a golden tint. And the best part was, we wore the same size clothing. We laughed at the same jokes, watched most of the same stupid TV shows, and she is genuinely fun person. If I were gay, I would totally marry her. And obviously, she has good taste in men. I was told not to expect to be best friends with my roommate, but how could I not?

“So, you and Luke, huh? How long have you guys been together?”

Her face lit up, “I’ve known him since we were like 13 or 14, just because our parents were friends. And, like, we started dating at the beginning of last year; we thought we were going to break up before graduation because we applied to different colleges. After we got the acceptance letters we decided to stay together; I mean, I know it’s stupid and completely unrealistic to be in love so young but, I love him.”

Eva’s face turned pink and she smiled radiantly, they say love is a beautiful thing.

“Well I agree with the whole being too young thing, but if you’re in love, you’re in love. Luke seems like a really great guy, and I support you guys.”

Not that my support was even relevant to this conversation, but it seemed like the right thing to say.

“He is, I hope you become friends with him. Luke’s a little shy but he’ll come around soon.”

“As long as I don’t have to hear the sex, it’s all good.”

Eva hit me on the arm, laughing,

“Speaking of sex, where did you and Ashton go last night? Isn’t he great?

I took a sip of my drink, watching Eva get all excited over the lack of anything that happened last night.

“He’s cool. We walked around central park last night, nothing happened, I mean we just talked.”

She rolled her eyes,

“Details! Besides, I’ve known Ashton for about three years so I know all about him.”

“Literally Eva? Why are there so many fucking Australian people here and why do they all know each other and WHY THE FUCK do I keep meeting them?

Eva cracked up, nearly choking on her tea.

“Apparently Furnald Hall is socially and systematically referred to one of the foreign buildings, but because they have to be ‘culturally diverse’ they add a couple Americans in there, namely you.”

I shook my head,

“That’s fucking bizarre, schools in this country are so pretentious, I can’t.”

Eva ignored that comment,

“So tell me about you and Ashton!”

I made a face; there wasn’t much to tell,

“Eva, chill, you have Luke, remember? I mean after I left you I wasn’t really going anywhere and on my way out he was like, ‘oh, be careful, New York isn’t forgiving to ladies at night’ and I was just like then come with me. I have to start building up my arsenal of friends anyways and so we just went to Central Park and just walked around. I fell on my ass and he gave me his hoodie, that’s basically it.”
