At a regionals competition in late fall, she smashed her head against the divingboard and sunk to the bottom of the pool. before she could drown, she was pulled back onto the cold tile of the pool grounds. She might still be alive, but with sivere injuried to the head and the lungs. Will she be able to dive again? lets see, one year later.

Opal sighed as she watched her friends jump into the pool, having fun. She just wanted to be able to have that. fun. It seemed like such an abnormal word to her now.
"You know, you still could dive." said her friend, ashton.
"no." Opal replied. "I can't." That was her reply every time somebody mentioned the possibility of her diving again.
One day, Opal was walking home from school and saw a group of middle school boys riding bikes and skate boards, but in the middle of the group their was a boy in a wheel chair. As the other boys raced with him, he had a hige smile plastered on his face. Opal sighed, thinking what am i holding back from?
Weeks later, Opal got a call from her docter, who was saying he had good news.
She walked her way to the hospital in the crisp air of early winter, and when she walked into the doctors office, her parents were their. she looked around to see that Ashton and her sister were their too. She cautiosly took a seat in between her mom and Ashton, wondering why everyone was her.
Her mother was the first to speak up. "Sweetie, we have some really good news and some bad news. Which do you want to hear first?"
wanting to end the day on a happy note, she chose the bad news first.
"okay." her father started. "the bad news is that none of us can decide who gets to tell you the good news." he says with a smile.
"What is it?' She asks, anxious to hear the news.
Before anyone could say anything else, Ashton speakes up. "They found a surgery that could work for you! You can dive again!"
Opal was speechless as everyone else in the room erupted in cheers.
The room graqdually became silent as everyone realized Opal was not celebrating. She looked up at everyone and smiled the widest grin ever seen. " When does this surgery start?"
