"Please! Someone help!" I heard a voice say- it was a woman pleading for someone's aid as she was being crushed by the large debris of the houses flying around.

I immediately launched my 3DMG towards the building that she laid under and saw that she had no chance of walking and escaping whatsoever, but I couldn't ever tell her that. Her son was beside her, helplessly crying.

"Ma'am are you alright? Please calm down I will help you." I reassured her, even though I, myself was unsure that I could help her.

"Just please take my son somewhere safe! Hurry!" tears started streaming down her eyes. I couldn't look at her. I couldn't bear to see another mother's eyes fill up with tears of agony.

"What about you? You're going to be-"

A loud thump on the ground interrupted, prompting my ever-so-inconvenient anxiety to go haywire.

The mother panicked.

I didn't know what to do, I had to accept that I couldn't save both of them.

"Please!" She begged. I finally gave in and took the son into my arms.

"Alright ma'am." I almost started to cry, but I didn't. I couldn't show my unreliability and weakness infront of the woman who entrusted her son's life to me.

"Thank you, please protect him." she choked her tears and I nodded. The titan was running closer in the distance. I launched my gear up to the building and met the rest of my team. As we grew distant from the mother, the child cried even louder calling out to her.

I reached the top of the building and met with my team who had also just landed onto the roof.

"(y/n)! Where have you been?" Reiner approached me and saw the child who was now standing beside me, holding my hand and crying.

"I saw his mother asking for help, and she told me to take her son," I gripped onto the child's hand. "I don't know what to do."

"We have to go," he said. "We have to keep him safe. I'll carry him for you on our way back. We'll decide what to do when we get back." he carried the child who was still gripping onto my hand.

"Don't worry, I'll be behind you all the way. Just hold tight to him." I reassured the kid and he nodded, rubbing his tearful eyes.

We made our way back over the wall, trying to avoid as many casualties as we could. I was worried. If a titan did approach us, I'm responsible for their lives. Luckily for our team, we had a clear run through. The child had stopped crying somewhere during our travel- probably he was too distracted with the feeling of flying through the air.

When we finally landed on the wall, we immediately went over to Dot Pixis.

"Hey, (y/n), how's the kid?" Reiner asked, walking over to my table in the mess hall.

"He's alright, he won't talk that much though." I told him as I looked at the child sitting beside me; whose name I later found out was Isaac.

"I can't believe they allowed you to take care of him." He sat infront of me and ate his bread.

"I can't either; Pixis didn't even put up an argument against it. But I guess it's because he doesn't have a place to live, and as much as he doesn't talk, he clings on to me like I'm his mother, so there's really no choice. But I don't mind." I started playing with my food.

"If it's hard for you, I'll help you take care of him. Besides, it's not easy to raise a child on your own." I looked at him. It was true, I needed the help. I didn't know how to raise this child.
