Zeke Leason
I had finally got enough money to attend college and lucky enough I had only missed few months. I reckon it will be weird joining later on rather than earlier but I don't care much about that as I can finally get back to dancing.
Yes, I said dancing. Some may think it's feminine but I think it depends on the style of dance; my preferred style is hip hop but I on occasions have to participate in slow dances. Dancing has been my life for I don't know how long but its practically all I know, maybe that's a bad thing... Even if it is a bad thing, its what I love to do and want to spend the rest of my life doing.
You know, the first thing that really encouraged me to dance was a girl named Skye. We were in primary school and had shared a the performing arts class. I can tell you now that drama was her weak point but there was talent and passion within her for singing and dance. Skye sounded like an angel- didn't exactly look like one, but there was always raw emotion in her voice. It was as if singing was her only escape and I had come to understand that conclusion after school one day. I had stumbled upon her and a woman who appeared to be her mum.
I can remember that moment clearly. The lady had dragged Skye out of the school and round a secluded corner; having saw one of my classmates forced down a path, I followed. Listening closely to the woman's raised voice, I heard these exact words...
"We decided to let you go to school but the deal was that you cannot talk to anyone. I saw you smiling and laughing with that boy earlier! How can you smile when me and your father are having such a hard time!" I could tell that I should have stopped listening at that point, it was a private affair after all but I just couldn't stop listening. "Maybe we should have kept you in that cell! You will not be returning to this school, ever! You will receive severe punishment for disobeying your parents!"
Me being young and naïve, I didn't think much of Skye's well-being at the time- I had seen bruises in dance class when her leggings would roll up a bit but I thought she was just clumsy. Turns out that she dropped out of school that day of the argument and was never seen again, a missing person report was never filed so I guessed herself and her family had moved to some place far away.
I had never regretted my decisions so much in my life when I found out that she was kept inside a cell for ten or more years- assaulted sexually, physically and emotionally over and over again. It was all over the news but Skye had never shown herself again, I had no clue as to if she was okay or not but I was certain that we would meet again.
Moving on from the words spoken in my head, I realized I had toppled into a small fence. I say a fence because it definitely was not a wall- walls are nearly impenetrable but this one wasn't. I practically walked through the poor thing. The girl was spread out on the floor; golden silky hair covering her face and tiny, thin arms holding her body up.
Just as I was going to apologize and help the lady up; her head had shot towards me. Routing me in my spot I saw her striking blue eyes and couldn't help feeling some kind of familiarity within them. Raising herself up slowly, her kind eyes transformed into a glare.
"Pfft." She began with a snicker, "sorry not sorry!" Darting off to wherever she was supposed to be, she left me in shock.
Well that was sorta weird and I'm sure I've met her before. Without much time to dwell on this accident, I rushed to the reception desk.
"I'm Zeke Leason, I'm here to pick up my timetable."
The lady looked up- eyeing me. I don't know why but I felt uncomfortable under her gaze, maybe it felt like she was checking me out. Oh well!
