(Karasuma's P.O.V)
I dusted my pants as I went down the car, the wind was different to the city's weak breeze, the countryside's fresh smell was better. My shoes stepped on the dirt road and I could see a windmill up ahead. It has been a two hour ride from town and the fresh pasture tells me we have gone far.
My men and I walked the dirt road, observing the deserted town quietly; only the soft creaking of the park's swings could be heard. We approached a large wooden building; the sign was chipped and mossy but the words "Miss Darcy's home for orphaned children" could be read.
Unlike the streets, it was bustling inside; children of all ages were running around while a teenager followed worriedly. They were playing with small plastic balls and toys, some scattered aimlessly on the polished floor.
"What do you need?" A voice asked and I turned to the small counter and I could see a girl typing at her laptop, who didn't seem to care less about the ruckus.
"I need to talk to Serina Jelavic." I said and the girl sighed. "She told me to tell you that she didn't set the market on fire." I raised an eyebrow at this before taking out my badge.
"Karasuma Tadaomi, prime minister of defense. I'm here on very confidential matters." The girl raised her head in interest and I took in her unnoticed features. I could tell that she wasn't any drop of Japanese at all. She had very Chinese eyes, a round shaped face with a short nose. Her hair was black with natural brown streaks mixing with it.
"Wait for a minute." She said as she got off her swivel chair, she called a brown haired teen that was chasing the children around earlier. "Get Serina for me." the girl said making the girl smile and climb up the building's worn out stairs.
"Call me Andrea; she'll be coming down shortly." Andrea said before sitting on her swivel chair once more, her hands typing at the laptop's keyboard.
We made ourselves comfortable, taking a seat at the plush sofas near the counter; several minutes have passed and I became impatient the longer it took for Serina to arrive.
"Where is she?" I asked Andrea who sighed and muttered. "She must be getting a hangover," I put my irritation on the down low, this is getting infuriating.
A few more minutes have passed and someone's light footsteps could be heard from the orphanage's stairs. A blonde teenager went down; a drowsy look on her face tells me that she had been woken up.
Her sleepy look was quickly changed with an alarmed one after seeing my men and me sitting at the plush sofas and she almost missed a step on the stairs making her stumble.
She approached the living room, her face composed in a stoic manner. "What?" She asked in a rough way before placing her feet on the glass coffee table. "Please get her some meds." I asked the girl named Drew who didn't even needed to be asked, this must be a usual thing.
"I'm Karasuma Tadaomi, Prime minister of defense." I said before showing my polished badge once more. Her eyes failed to hide her surprise and she cleared her throat before speaking.
"Am I in trouble?" She asked while she set her feet down, I could tell that she was more serious with our conversation. "You're not, but I have private matters to discuss with you." She nodded and Drew arrived, a glass of cold water and medicine in her hands.
"Thanks Drew." She muttered before taking the items and Drew smiled in return. "Someone wants to adopt you." I simply said when the brown-haired teen was out of earshot.
She blinked once and sighed, "Who?" I slid Irina's details on the coffee table and it didn't take a second for her to take it. She flipped it open eagerly, her eyes greedily reading every inch of the file. I stared at Andrea whose head was raised in interest. I raised a finger and gestured for her to leave, she was pretty happy to oblige.
