I smiled sadly at my tiny mate making him growl in frustration. He tried to move towards me only to be pulled back by Ria and Sol. They had promised him a makeover and would be going through with it.

I chuckled to myself as he screamed something about his hair. Personally, I loved it long but a small trim wouldn't hurt. Besides, I would never have let them do anything if I hadn't persuaded them to make sure they wouldn't do anything that he didn't want.

I shook my head when I saw Finn at my office door pouting. It was at times like these I hated living in the pack house.

"I got left with blue balls. AND my pregnant mate refuses guards. What happens if she goes into labour?"

"She'll link you?" I said pushing past him to get inside.

"But what if I can't get to her in time?"

"She's upstairs Finn. I'm sure a capable young wolf, like yourself, could climb those unending stairs in a heartbeat"

"You're a terrible best friend. You know that right?"

"You're a terrible beta but I'm not replacing you am I?"

He huffed and collapsed onto my couch. He sat silently for a moment but the peace didn't last long. Just as he was about to speak we heard a high pitched scream.

That wasn't a scream because someone pulled a prank or cut Caleb's hair too short. That was a scream of terror and it came from my sister.

I bolted upstairs and saw some of my warriors already there. One of the female warriors pointed to Sol on the floor in Ria's arms. I stood frozen as I saw the blood that trailed down her leg.

"Alpha," I was floored when I saw my mate. He sat seemingly in shock as he stared at Sol, covered in blood.

The short moment that seemed to go in slow motion was broken as pack doctors and nurses filed in immediately removing Sol from the room.

A pack therapist sat with Ria while my mate was also carried out on a stretcher. I shook my head looking from my mate to my sister before darting out behind my mate. I didn't have much time to feel guilty for leaving my sister because my mate started to scream loudly.

I rushed to his side and gripped his hand in mine. His screams quieted down a bit and he held on tighter.

"I'm here sweetheart it's okay. Poopy's here baby," I cooed as they hooked him up to various machines.

"It's some type of poison, Alpha. I'm fairly sure I know what it is but we may need you to leave. If he responds negatively to the loss of contact we'll call you immediately"

I let them usher me outside and saw Finn sitting on a bench in the hall of the medical wing.

"How is he?" he spoke first as I sat down.

"I don't know... they said something about poison. How's Sol?" I asked softly.

"She's fine."

"The baby?"

"They're trying."

"I can't even process what I'm feeling right-"

"I have to talk to my brother!" Ria's desperate growl caused me to shoot up. I sighed, opening my arms to the girl as she struggled to escape the therapist and my mother's grip.

They let her come to me as I enclosed her in my arms letting her inhale my scent from a second before sitting us down on the bench.

"What is it Ria?"

"The wolf. He had no scent but he looked feral. He didn't see Caleb at first so he attacked me but Sol kicked him. Then, then he pushed her and she started to bleed then all of a sudden Caleb had shifted and, and he took a big chunk out the wolf's neck.
