Goodbye

"Cas!" San shout, his voice frantic and scared. He knew it was too late, he saw the wings burned into the wooden floor, but he wouldn't believe it. Couldn't believe it. Sam started to run to Cas, but Dean slammed him. against the wall.

"Wait your turn, Sammy. I'll be over there next." Dean crouched over Cas's cold, stiff body, and smiled. It was a sad smile, full of sadness, like he couldn't bear that everything had come to this. Dean closed Cas's eyes, and placed his hands on his chest. It almost looked like Cas was sleeping, almost looked like Dean cared, but Sam knew better.

Sam felt the pressure keeping him against the wall lessen, and then disappear all together. Confused, Sam crept behind his brother, who seemed oblivious to everything but the body of his fallen angel. Sam held Ruby 's knife to Dean's neck.

"Do it." Dean said. "I dare you, Sammy. Just do it."

Sam's eyes widened. His nightmare was coming true. If everything went the way it had in his dream, Dean would die today. Sam could not let that happen. His brother would survive. Sam lowered the knife.

Dean smirked. "I knew you didn't have it in you." He casually waved his hand, and, once again, Sam crashed into the wall. Stars spun lazily across his vision.

"Family, Dean." Sam whispered.

Dean narrowed his eyes. "What was that, Sammy?"

Sam's voice grew louder. "Family, I said. Hasn't that always been so important to you, Dean? Family is the reason you never killed me, even though I was turning into a monster. Family is the reason you spent thirty years in Hell. Family, Dean."

A bewildered look flickered on Dean's face, and it appeared that he did remember. But, as quickly as it came, it was gone. Dean's eyes flicked to black.

"Thought you could save me with that wussified, dew eyed crap? You thought wrong. This is me now, and forever." With the word forever, Dean drew the First Blade.

"Goodbye, Sammy."

Dean plunged the Blade into his baby brother's heart.
