Changing My Mind

I got to the top and saw a lot of death eaters fighting Remus and Mr. Weasley. I joined the fight. The death eater I was fighting sent a jinx at me that locked up my right hand. I could not move it at all. I am horrible at performing left-handed magic, so I knew I needed to get out of there and find a safe place to attempt to fix my hand if I was going to survive this battle.

I ran before the death eater could do any more damage to me and headed for the room of requirement, probably one of the last few safe places in Hogwarts during the battle. The door magically appeared before me and I entered the room.

Ginny Weasley was sitting there. When I asked why, she told me how she was not allowed to fight because she was underage, but she didn't want to go home because she couldn't stand not knowing what was happening to her family. I knew how she felt. I finally figured out how to fix my hand as we stopped talking and Harry Potter came in the room.

"Tonks!" he exclaimed, "I thought you were with your mother and Teddy."

"I couldn't stay home while this was happening," I said. "Have you seen Remus?" "Yeah," said Harry, he was near here a little bit ago." He pointed in the right direction, and I rushed off, hearing him ask Ginny to leave the room for a second.

I didn't run towards Remus, but away from him. As I headed up a staircase, the whole castle shook and bits of the ceiling fell to the ground. I realized for the first time how dangerous this was, and how if Remus and I died, I wouldn't want to end everything in a fight.

I turned around and headed back toward where Harry said Remus would be. I ran as fast as I could while the castle shook again and a big chunk of the ceiling almost fell on me. I got out of the way just in time to avoid being crushed.

I finally stopped running when I got outside and saw all the bodies. But I only stopped for a second, trying not to see who was

already dead but making sure Remus wasn't among them. Then I kept running and running until I saw Remus.
