I don't know why I let her talk me into this.I haven't been on a date in years and here I am getting ready for one. I thought I was a little overdressed for a first date, let alone a blind date, but I wanted to impress.
Ring! Ring!
I ran to my bed to grab my cell, praying it was him wanting to cancel.
"Hello?" I asked realizing it was my friend Tasha.
"You still home or,"
"No I'm about to walk out the door now. Which restaurant is it again?" I asked putting on my heels and checking the mirror one more time before I headed out the door.
"It's Chow's on 71st street."
"Okay I know where it is, text you when I get in, okay?"
"Kila, have fun and don't be nervous."
"Too late for that." I got in my car and headed towards 71st street. It was 7:45 p.m and it was going to take me at least 20 minutes to get to Chow's from my place. Ugh I can't even be on time. I could feel my nerves getting worse the closer I got. All the "what if's" started crowding my head about how bad this blind date was going to be. I even started thinking of ways to cancel. No, I can do this. I'm beautiful, I'm smart, I'm 30 and single, I need this to go well.
I pulled into the parking lot and checked myself one more time before heading in. I grabbed my purple taser out of the middle console and placed it into my purse just in case anything happened to go wrong. As I walked inside, I didn't notice any one in particular. I walked up to the waitress and told her I was meeting someone and gave her my name.
"Right this way ma'am." I followed behind the waitress all the way to the back of the restaurant.
"Here you are." I sat down and almost immediately my heart started racing. I could feel the steam coming from my ears and my mind replaying events that took place 4 months ago.
"I'll be back in a few minutes to take your order for drinks," the waiter said as she laid out menus on the table.
"No need, I've already ordered champagne. I'll let you know when we're ready to order." She nodded and walked away.
"You look beautiful Kila," a familiar face said to me.
"Thank you Broderick. I'm kind of confused as to what this is. Why? How? You and Tasha did this?!" I asked trying to stay as calm as possible.
"You weren't taking my calls, I couldn't reach you, I had to do something." Broderick was looking good and I could smell his cologne from across the table. I had to snap out of it.
"That was the point." I grabbed my purse and headed for the exit.
"Kila wait," Broderick stood up and grabbed my arm and by then my taser was already beaming.
"Seriously? I'm not trying to fight with you Kila, I just needed the opportunity to let you know what really happened."
