This chapter is basically a quick overview of how their search for the ink machine pieces and offerings began. If you haven't read the original owner's works, you will be a bit confused. There are some holes in each segment that will be filled in future chapters and extras. Enjoy!
In an area just on the outskirts of town, a crowd of passerbys clap and cheer as yet another performance comes to a close. They drop money into a bowl in front of the performers, from coins to bills until the bowl was full. A demon and a little black wolf take a bow before scampering back into their orphanage with the bowl.
"Well done lads!"
The director, Mr. Wally, says, patting both their heads. The little wolf wags his tail and the demon pulls back from the praising hand, growling slightly. It's a known fact around the orphanage that he hates being touched.
"Oh Bendy..."
The director sighs. He waves the two off and they run to their assigned room to wait for dinner. Once they reach their room, they are greeted by their five roommates; two twin bunnies, a cat, a bird and a mouse.
"BENDY! BORIS!"
The younger ones yell in unison. The bunnies, Niko and Rico, tackle the little wolf to the ground, hopping around him playfully. The demon approaches the cat, Xera and the two move to the corner to talk privately.
"Boris, Boris! We heard you playing from outside!"
"You guys are so cool!"
"How much money did you get?!"
The wolf laughed and shrugged.
"Thanks! Sorry, we didn't count."
The little bird, Sylvia, feigns exasperation and the mouse, Riffram, makes an exaggerated gasp. The buns and Boris laugh and begin to play around.
3 years later
Bendy holds Boris close, letting him cry into his chest as another friend is buried. The new director, Mrs. James, and the other orphans bow to the grave before heading inside, leaving the two to mourn. In just three years, everyone they knew and loved disappeared.
The old director--cancer
Xera--too old to stay at the orphanage
Riffram--inkness/drowned in bathtub
Niko--inkness/never woke up
Rico--suicide
Now Sylvia--inkness
"B-B-B...Bendy...? H-how many more a-are gonna d-die?"
"... I don't know."
Bendy answers solemnly. He continues to pet Boris' head gently, calming the weeping wolf. The wolf's grip tightened around Bendy's waist.
"Bendy... P-promise you won't leave me? Please?"
The demon squeezes back slightly, nodding his head.
"I'll never leave you, Boris. I promise."
2 years later
"BENDY!"
Boris shouts as his brother collapses in an inky mess. The little wolf scampers to his older brother's side. Tears begin to fall as his brother coughs and wheezes uncontrollably. The demon screams in pain, alarming everyone in the orphanage.
Just as Mrs. James and the others came in, a painful feeling washes through Bendy like a tide. Clutching his stomach, he falls over into Boris' arms, screeching at the pain.
