Time To Go Home

The Food

Cowering, it trembles. It presses back, as though it thinks it can vanish into the walls of the plastic prison that conceals it. Its a fool if it thinks that will work. Days that feel like years have led it to this isle, this shelf, this moment; it can't alter the future now. Its bed has been made; now it has to lie in it. Time has caught up to it.

It's time for it to go home.

Fear converts it into a writing mass of panic, tremors running though it. Nothing else that's gone home has returned; its about to find out why.

Rumbling vibrations fill its head, a mind-numbing thrumming that refuses to cease. Time compresses in on itself, blending a five-minute car trip into both eons and mere seconds simultaneously. Never-ending.

Without warning, the shaking stops, leaving only shocked silence in its wake. They have arrived. Haltingly, warily, it sits up. Silence grips the air like a vice, unrelenting in its hold. Seconds pass; the air holds its breath, waiting.....

An explosion of sound shatters the stillness, wreaking havoc on the quiet. It is gripped, spun, dropped, hit. Broken down, dumped in a tray, it sobs, immobile. Sobbing as its bacon blanket suffocates it, crying as the temperature mounts, unbearable, painful. Then there is only silence. Morbid, deadly silence.

The Humans

Mouth-watering anticipation warms me from the inside out as my gaze lands on the table. Bedecked with the objects of my gaze, the table bears its burden with a sigh, patiently waiting for someone to lighten its load. Hours of preparation have lead to this moment - he moment the crackers are pulled, the drinks are poured, and we can finally satisfy our hunger.

A/N: Just to mix things up, I'm going to post a Christmas short story on New Year's Eve ;) A bit weird, I know, but never mind. The first part is the POV of the food, the second is the POV of the humans abut to eat it. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading!
