Chapter 2

I woke up to the blaring sound of my alarm going off. I quickly got up, showered, and got dressed. Then I packed up all of my equipment, and went to the kitchen for a quick breakfast. When I got downstairs, everyone was already there, having a delicious meal of pancakes and bacon. "How long have you guys been here? And how did you get in?" I said, still a little bit groggy from my long sleep. Sadie came up to me, got on her tiptoes and kissed me on the cheek. "There's a key under your doormat, and we've been here for about an hour or so." She grabbed my hand and led me to my seat at the table. My plate was already full with two pancakes, stacked just the way I like it, with syrup dripping from the center all the down to the plate. I sat down and dug in, I was starving. Sadie pulled a piece of paper out of her backpack and smoothed it out on the table. "Ok, so, we leave here at around  7:30. We eat a good breakfast right now because we probably won't be able to eat again for a couple of hours. We also have to make sure that we bring flashlights just in case there's no electricity." She looked up to make sure everyone was still with her. "We go back there tomorrow as well to check up on everything. And we need to make sure that we document every last bit. That's why I brought my camera." She held up a camcorder and a stand. We spent the next thirty minutes eating as much as we could for the journey ahead. Just as we were about to leave, I heard a blood-chilling scream come from the mansion. I looked around wildly at everyone to see if they heard it too. No one seemed to be reacting, except to their own conversations. I stopped in my tracks and everyone filed out. Sadie saw my hesitation and stayed behind. "Hey, what's up Brandon?" I looked at her and said, "Did you not just hear that scream coming from the mansion?" She looked at me like I was crazy. "What scream? No one screamed, I don't know what you're talking about." I just shrugged and followed her out of the house. I mean, honestly, Brandon, what's the worst thing that can happen?

We stepped on to the threshold of the mansion- the creaky, rodent eatten stairs. I was still kind of reluctant on going in, even though I was the one who wanted to do this. That scream just changed my whole point of view. We opened the door and stepped into the house. Once everyone was in, the door slammed behind us. "Hey, why did that slam, there's not even a breeze!" I tried opening the door, and to my horror, it was locked. Sadie clung to me bawling her eyes out, "I wanna go home!" I held her and told her that it was going to be ok. We started to explore the house, to find a room that we could set up in. I stepped into the library, and thought, wow this is a perfect place. "Guys, come into the library, it's a huge wide open space." They walked in a single file line and started setting up on the big, round table in the center of the room. We split the table up into four sections, one for each person. As we were getting our stuff out we heard booming footsteps coming down the stairs in the grand hall. "Welcome to my mansion, I hope you are having a grand time, I know I am", a loud voice said out of the shadows. He sounded oddly familiar, it was kind of eerie. Next thing we knew, a tall, broad figure was turning the corner to the library. "Charlie??", I exclaimed utterly confused. "Yes Brandon, did you miss me? I may not have wanted to be a part of your fun, but I will be the cause of it." He laughed menacingly. I looked closer at him, and what he was wearing. His attire consisted of a black tuxedo, with a flowing purple cape, and a golden crown on the top of his head. "How long have you been lying to us Charlie? Or is that name a lie too?" He pondered my question with a scarily calm smile and said, "Oh I haven't been lying, just bending the truth a little bit. And yes Charlie is a fake name. My real name is El Diablo, if you don't know that already." Oh yeah I think we gathered that much. "I just hope you make it through the night." Just like that, he was gone leaving us to fear and wonder about waht he meant.
