Alison's POV

A voice like thunder startled me as it boomed, "Stop walking with your head in your ass, woman!"

'Oh no, it wasn't a wall I crashed into'

I flinched at the acidity of his words and was too scared to even look at his face. Sudden memories rushed back to me, reminding me of all the times I had been yelled at throughout my life. I just can't take it anymore. Although my life has been full of people who have treated me poorly, I am determined to break that cycle and not allow it to continue.

His voice boomed again like thunder in the isolated lobby, "Are you deaf now as well as blind!" I looked up to see a pair of mesmerizing grey eyes glaring holes in my skull, full of anger.

Strangely, everyone was quiet now, maybe because of this asshole who was dangerously close to my face, acting like he was the king or something. I need to give him peace of mind. I bet he was expecting an apology from me. I would've said sorry before, but after how he treated me, it's not going to happen.

I met his grey orbs with equal intensity, waiting for my reply impatiently. Although I'm not good at witty comebacks, as I never stood up for myself before, I figured there was no harm in trying.

"Who do you think you are, talking down to people like they're beneath you? I will never apologize to a lunatic freak like you who talks out of his ass. I hope you choke on all the crap you spew." I said calmly, almost in a whisper, trying not to cause a scene and ruin my chances of getting the job. It wasn't the smartest comeback, but looking at his face, which was fuming with anger, his clenched fists turning white from the force, I knew it had hit the mark.

Uh-oh, I think I pressed the wrong button. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. He looks dangerous.

"You'll soon realize the extent of my power, young lady, and the destruction it can bring upon your pathetic life!" His voice was a low growl, each word dripping with venom. As if he is promising he would make me regret ever crossing him. He took a dangerous step towards me and I instinctively took one backwards, and just then, the phone rang, shattering the tense silence like a hammer shattering glass.

I felt a chill run down my spine. If looks could kill, I would have been buried six feet under.

"YES!" he barked on the phone, his death glare still locked on me.

"Okay, I'm on my way."

He gave me one last look, a dagger that pierced my soul, before vanishing into the elevator. I stood there, frozen in shock, watching his fading figure disappear into the distance.

The lobby was now a ghost town, with only the receptionist left behind, her head bowed low over the computer.

I couldn't help but wonder who this man was. Was he someone important? What if he really tried to destroy me? I couldn't bear the thought of having another enemy. My plate was already full of troubles since childhood.

My heart was hammering against my rib cage, ready to rip out. I have to admit, this man was intimidating, his scowl a deadly weapon that could have felled me in an instant.

'Thank god he's gone. I hope I never see that—Mr Grinch again.' I breathed a sigh of relief when he left, grateful to be free of his oppressive presence.

'More like the most handsome man!' my inner thoughts were quick to contradict. I shook my head, trying to dispel the image of his handsome face from my mind, but it was no use, a part of me couldn't help but admire his rugged good looks.
