I wasn't the first to lay eyes on him. Nor was I the only one to stare. However, I gazed at him with eyes that did not judge. I knew everyone on the cheer team immediately exed him out of the possible friendlist. He was immediately labeled the emo kid. The one to be avoided at all times. Nevertheless I wasn't phased. Maybe it was his cloudy green eyes. Whatever the case, I fluffed my hair, handed my bag to Tiffany, and ran up to him. He didn't slow his pace, He didn't even acknowledge I was there, but I made sure to keep up.

"Hello, my name is Zion. I'm the cheerleading captain. I am usually in charge of the fun events we hold here at Hearst High. If you want I can give you a tour of the school grounds. It'll be a better idea than going to the admissions hall. I can even show you to your classes and locker."

He was silent for a long moment. All I could hear were the whispers that accompanied us on our neverending walk. Finally he stopped walking, causing a full on collision between the two of us.

"Isn't your kind of crowd around everyone but me. The flock is calling, they aren't pleased with this little conversation. Why don't you run along sheep."

It was his eyes, even now in his sarcastic air, I was mesmerized. He had facial piercings, and I could see the edge of a tattoo on his left wrist. Words I couldn't make out. He wore a black button up, torn skinny jeans, vans, and Teddy bear suspenders. The only thing I could think was, cute.

"It's my job to be welcoming. Hand me your schedule. By the way what's your name?"

"Fido. Call me Fido." And with that he handed me his crumpled up schedule. Sadly we had no shared classes, but we did have the same lunch break. On the top right hand of his schedule was the name 'Garfield D. Berkley'. I chuckled. Once again the word cute crossing my mind. I grabbed his hand and walked ahead of him.

After I'd shown him around, I escorted him to his first class. I handed him his schedule, but not before writing my name and number on it. I flashed my most welcoming smile at him and made my way to the gym. There the whole team stood not so patiently waiting.

"Zion what the fuck. You left earlier leaving your shit with Tiffany. And for what? Is that creep about to be another one of your projects? Because he will NOT start hanging around us. No ma'am!"

"Zoey chill. Fido is not a bad guy. Don't judge him by his outer appearance. Anyways, his eyes are so majestic, I felt myself beginning to drown in them."

"Oh no. Zion don't even think about it. The Craig Johns is going to ask you to homecoming. Maybe even prom! You CANNOT throw that away over some pretty eyed black sheep. You're the head cheerleader. Act like it!"

"Look, I'll still be captain no matter who I go to homecoming and prom with. Anyways Craig is okay. Never said I was going to stop talking to him."

"Good. Don't get too invested. You're always trying to save someone."

I smiled to myself.

I would've never known. That it was him, who would be saving me.
