The Long Road

Infected.

I woke up and ran my hand through my haair and wiped blood of my forehead and got out of the car and walked up the hill when i got to the top i saw a line of those creepy motherfuckers standing there holding Erica by her hair her face bloodied.
This man with spiky red hair and face painted black and white skull he says to me "YOU KILLED MY PEOPLE IM TAKING YOU TO NEW LIGHT SO THEY CAN DEAL WITH YOU."

I surrendered and they knocked me and i woke up on the side of the road with Erica right next to me the ground was hot as i was next to a car flipped over and smoking. I woke up Erica and she was barely conscious and in front of me was a blue paint chipped house with the door open.

I looked around the truck and found my back pack and went inside the house and pulled my gun out.

i walked in to a ranch style home and it was mostly laid untouched except the kitchen had a dead body laying on the floor.
I heard crunching and growling coming from the kitchen I sat up against the corner. I peaked around the corner and saw the thing munching on the red hair dudes stomach.
I turned around the corner and the thing got
up and tackled me to the ground he knocked the breath out of me and he kept trying to bite me as blood was pouring out of his mouth i kept pushing his mouth away and knees him and punched him across the face and kicked him i grabbed my gun turned around and as that thing came running towards me , I pulled the trigger as his head blown in half and he fell to the ground.

I walked outside i had so much adrenaline i could do anything. when i walked outside i saw three more of them running towards the house.
I grabbed my gun and pulled the trigger again and again till there was no infected.
I didn't know what i had in me to do that. I just knew i needed to save Erica.

I pulled her up to the house and into one of the room and laid her on the bed.

I walked down the hall and closed the front door and held stuff up against it. and closed the back door and did the same thing.
I walked in the bedroom and flipped a dresser and covered more things against the door.

I sat by the door and i watched the sun set.

My eyes started to drift off and i fell asleep.

I woke up to a new light the sun started to rise.
The air was so hot i could barely breathe and my clothes were starting to stink of blood and flesh and sweat.

I brushed my hair and put it up and woke up Erica.

She sat up and she looked at me and said "I can't believe we're alive right now , We're so off track there gonna think we're dead."

I told her "We just need to find a place where we think it's safe."

She responds with "No , not what we think is safe , What we know is safe."

She sat up and opened the window and we started our walk through towns and woods and lots of dead people with stories to tell.
As we're walking down this dirt trail Erica tells me a story she says to me "When this all happened I never expected the world would ever turn to this , I've literally lost everyone i've loved and everything i loved is turning to dirt. I'm so over not feeling safe anymore , I lost my mom first to a bite mark , then my two sisters got killed and my father got eaten alive."
She stopped for a minute and broke down and started crying she fell over and i held her and said "Listen to me , The world is a terrible but we can change that and from loss we can make sure shit like that never happens again."

         She got up and said "Get the fuck off of me I'm just tired." She said in the most serious tome like she wasn't even crying she's shows her weaknesses at the wrong times there no use to even comfort.
       Erica was a cold hearted woman.

We walked past a Pittsburgh sign that said "WE ARE THE LIGHT NEXT EXIT.".

  She said to me "We're almost there."
  I was so exhausted.

We walked down this exit which was pretty steep as cars covered in moss or flipped over or scorched with bodies in them.

  I heard an engine in the distant with distant noises and people yelling.
    We got behind a car and i peaked around the corner very careful and saw a woman tied up in chains as she was being dragged across the road as distant screams and chains sparking against the ground.
  They drove past the exit and didn't see us. We jumped over the side of the bridge and took the woods the rest of the way in risk of greens finding us.

As we were passing through the woods the sun was setting and soon night was coming.
        The leaves and sticks cracked under my feet as we ran through the woods trying to get through it before night came.

I came running over a hill and tripped over a branch and tumbled down a hill and kept falling over and over as the breath got knocked out of me.

I hit the ground which was a muddy creek and everything was soaked and moist and i had mud all over me.

    I laid there for a minute to catch my breath which felt like forever.

   I heard a distant yelling someone was yelling my name "CORRRINEEE , CORRINEEE!!".

  I yelled but it was muffled "Over Here".

   I couldn't move i started to crawl through the mud as it sank between my fingertips.

  I started to crawled up the hill and i heard growling and clicking and feet running.

  I laid low to the ground and stayed quiet i pulled out my knife and kept it close to me.

  The noise was getting closer and closer and i looked a little bit over the hill it's feet were right in front of me i felt my heart beat start picking up and blood started dripping onto my head.

  I jump up as fast as i can and push that thing to the ground as it starts screaming and biting the air i hold its throat down and stab it in the head about 5 times as blood and green ooze mixed with it splurged out and its screams became silent.

Erica came up and said "Corrine , What the fuck just happened?"

  I explained to her what happened and we continued the journey as night fell the mud dried and cracked my clothes and dried blood and mud on the side of my face i kept walking and we approached this fire and Erica drew up her gun and shot three people wearing human skin.

      We came on the street as it was scorched and looked like it has been bombed and in the middle of the start is this grey 15 foot wall with black guard towers.
      bright lights flashed in our eyes and loud ringing brought us to the ground the sound was unbearable i closer my eyes and passed out.
