Chapter 19

I open the door, "oh you've got to be fucking kidding me. What do you want now?"   "I'd like to see my daughter please". Cora Mills says to me.  "Regina. Someone is here to see you". I call out to her. She comes walking out of the kitchen. "Mother how dear you show your face here".  "Regina I'd like to speak to you dear".  "I have nothing to say to you".  "Please Regina this won't take long". Regina lets out a breath. "Fine mother what is it?"  "Perhaps I could come in so the neighbors don't hear our business". Regina nods so I step aside and Cora walks in and I close the door behind her. "May we speak alone Regina?"  "No mother. What ever you feel the need to say, you can say it in front of my wife".  "Fine then. I had hoped by now that you would have come to your senses, but you still seem to be living in this fantasy life. Regina I did not raise you this way, to abandon your family and your responsibilities. You walked away from the company your father built from the ground up. How do you think he would feel right now?"   "Oh mother, don't throw daddy in my face. He always knew I hated that job. It was you that never listened to me. Now I'm living my own life and I'm not letting you control me anymore".  "I'm giving you one last chance to make the right decision Regina. End this silly little marriage and come back into our family company".  "Get the hell out of my home and until you can respect me and Emma and our marriage, you are not welcome here. Goodbye".  "Regina if I walk out that door you will be cut off from everything".  "What the hell does that mean?"  "You will be thrown off the Mills company board, stripped of all the royalties including money and property".  "Mother you can't do that. I own stocks in that company". "That were purchased by your father, who also purchased this place you are living in".  "It doesn't matter who bought what. Everything is in my name, including this penthouse that daddy left to me in his will".  "My lawyer believes it can all be taken away". "You've talk to a lawyer?"  "Of course I have Regina. I will do whatever it takes to make you see that what you are doing is wrong". "Fine mother. I'll have my lawyer call yours. You may leave now". And with that Regina walked back into the kitchen. Cora then looks at me and says. "If you truly love her, then don't let her lose everything".  I didn't know what to say. I just watched as Cora walked out the door. How can she do this to her own daughter?  I walk into the kitchen and find Regina sitting there looking at the ultrasound picture and crying. I walk over and sit next to her. "I'm sorry Regina. I can't believe your mother would do something like that".  "I do. This is her way of trying to control me, but it's not going to work. She can take my stocks, she can even take our home, but I'll be damned if she thinks I'm going to give up my happy life. I love you Emma. We are starting a family together and there is nothing I want more than that". I wrap my arms around her and rub her back. "I love you too Regina. Happy 3 month anniversary babe". We both chuckle a bit. "Would you mind if we stayed in tonight? I'm not really in the mood to go out".   "That's fine babe. Did you want to order something from that restaurant or do you want something from Granny's?"  "Granny's is fine sweetheart. I wouldn't mind a burger and fries". I laugh. "You are pregnant aren't you".  "Yup. And your baby better not make me fat".  "Oh baby. You are gonna look so cute with your big belly. I can't wait". She smacks me in the arm and says. "Just go get us food". I give a salute "Yes ma'am. I'll be right back". I give her a kiss and go get my pregnant wife something to eat.
