Special Delivery

Chapter 22

"I can't believe that just happened. I really hope my mother will back off now". Regina says before she takes another bite of her chicken sandwich. "I hope so too babe. I just want us to be able to live our lives together without having someone try to tare us apart". We hear Regina's phone start to ring. She looks at the caller id, "Oh no, it's my mother". I hold out my hand. "You want me to answer it?"  "No thank you dear. I'm letting it go to voicemail". A moment later the phone dings indicating a voicemail. "You gonna listen to it?"  "I'd rather not Emma. I've really had enough of her". I nod and we continue eating. Her phone rings again and this time it's Zelena and Regina lets out a deep sigh. "Yes. Hello Zelena, what can I do for you?"  "Regina. Mother just tried to call you".  "Yes I know. I didn't want to answer it, so I let it go to voicemail".   "Did you listen to it?"   "Not yet".  "Oh you should. It's really a hoot. Kathryn and I watched her make the call. She cried and everything".   "Zelena is there a reason you called me?"  "Actually Yes. I wanted to congratulate you and Emma on the baby. I can't wait to become an auntie".   "Thank you. Emma and I are having lunch ok, so I'll call you later".  Then she hung up. "Everything ok Regina?"  "Yes. She just wanted to congratulate us on the baby".  "Oh. That's nice". We finished our lunch and went home. The next few months seemed to fly by. Regina finished her college classes and she is now starting to shadow teachers in class rooms. She loves it and can't wait to become a teacher , but with the baby coming she's going to take a year or so off then she'll start teaching a first grade class. Zelena has  really stepped up a lot, not only with the company but being a better sister to Regina. It's nice to see how close they have gotten over the past few months. I got a promotion at the Sheriffs Department, I'm the new under sheriff which means besides the sheriff, I'm the highest rank in the department. Things have been going well for us, just a few more months and we will have our baby. We've got everything all set up, the nursery is done, we got all the clothes and diapers, we even put the car seats in our cars. The only thing we haven't done was pick out a name. We decided not to find out what Regina is having, we want to be surprised, but it makes picking a name harder. So tonight we're sitting on the couch looking through the baby name book when we hear the door bell ring. "You expecting anyone babe?"  Regina shakes her head no, I hand her the book and go to the door. Looking through the peep hole I can't believe who I see. I open the door. "What are you doing here?"   "I was hoping to see my daughter please".  "I'm not going to tell you that you can't because that's up to Regina weather she wants to see you or not, but I will tell you this, she is 7 months pregnant and if you do anything to harm her or stress her out in any way I coming after you and I promise you, you won't like it".  "Please do calm down, I'm not here to harm her, I'd just like to speak to her please".  I nod and say.  "Wait here".  I go back into the living room. "Who was at the door dear?"  "It's your mother Regina".  "What the hell is she doing here?"   "She said she wants to speak to you". I help Regina up and we walk to the front door. "What do you want mother?"   "Oh Regina, you look beautiful. Pregnancy looks good on you".  "Thank you. Want are you doing here".  "I just wanted to see you, it's been too long. I know I am to blame for that, so I came here to apologize to you and to Emma. I was wrong and I know that now. I've been asking Zelena for updates on you and she says you and the baby have been well. I missed a lot because of the way I acted and I want you to know I'm very sorry".   "Why are you doing this now mother?"   "In all honesty, I've been in therapy for the last few months and learned how wrong my actions were, I know it will take some time but I hope we can somehow mend our relationship".  "That's very brave Of you mother, and you are right it will take time. Thank you for coming here tonight". Cora smiles at both of us. "Thank you for seeing me, good night". I open the door for her and she walks out. I close the door and look at Regina. "What the fuck was that?"  "I have no idea my love, I just hope she's not up to anything. I'll call Zelena in the morning".
