It was as Hoseok had been punched in the face at this exact moment

It was as Hoseok had been punched in the face at this exact moment. He couldn't believe it, couldn't wrap his head around it. He knew his father. His mind overflowed with questions. Where was he? Why hasn't he come back? And more importantly, was he alive?

Hoseok was starting to have a headache. He sat down on the small chair in front of the couch, eyes big. Jules did the same, staring at him. It was almost like he expected Hoseok to react  like this.

"I'm sure you have a lot of questions, so come on, ask away." Hoseok stopped staring at his feet. He couldn't believe any of this. And yes, he surely had a lot of questions to ask. So, without thinking more to it, he blurted out the first thing that came to his mind.

"How did you know him?" Jules raised an eyebrow. He had noticed that keyword, that small, three letter word, that already said a lot about Hoseok and his relation to his father. He had given up. He didn't point it out, not yet at least. "We work together. I'm his quarter master."

Hoseok nodded frantically. Even if he hated the ocean and everything close to it, his father was still a sailor. He knew certain things. And on a ship, the quarter master was as important as the captain, almost his equal. If Jules really told the truth and the crew had elected him to represent their interests, he could trust him.

Hoseok sighed, crossing his hands together, elbows on his knees. Something was off. Hoseok knew that. The way Jules would look somewhere else every so often, like he was avoiding his gaze. He was hiding something. His right leg kept jerking up and down discretely and he already had a cigar at his mouth, as he was trying to exhale his stress.

"Tell me, Jules. You speak of him as he was still alive. It has been 3 years since he was supposed to come back here. He hasn't. Yet, you're here. Don't lie. Something happened didn't it? " Hoseok stared at the older man waiting for an answer.

He continued to smoke the cigar, eyes lost on the wall behind Hoseok, the younger's eyes glued to the other. He was waiting impatiently for any kind of answer, that yes, something had happened, that they were all dead and he was the only survivor. Or maybe, just maybe Hoseok was so drunk he was just imagining it all.

That could be a possibility

Jules opened his eyes big, as if he was suddenly remembering something horrible, that would give children and adults chills and nightmares. Hoseok was more than ready to listen to what he had to say.

"You don't believe them, you don't think that after almost 45 years you need to, because you've seen it all!" He chuckled dryly. He wasn't laughing, and that Hoseok knew. He smoked some more and continued. "Or you think so. We never thought, that this would happen, not even your father. He was surprised even!"

His face became crisped. He wasn't laughing anymore. "They are horrible, Hoseok, disgusting. Hideous, awful, dreadful, repulsive even! And dangerous, so, so dangerous... They are a critical threat. We had no idea... And suddenly they were here, killing us, taking everything, skinning our best men alive...They got your father. They had me too, and I thought I was about to die... but suddenly, I was here. I don't know how. But they were so, so beautiful..."

Hoseok wanted to cry his eyes out. Jules was gone. He was gone three years ago. And his father was still there, if he wasn't already dead. At their mercy. Waiting for someone, something to come and save him from them. But it was impossible. If you went, you couldn't come back.

Hoseok glanced at Jules. Or maybe that was wrong. He had came back somehow. Maybe there was a way to do it. To come back. Hoseok could always hope for it.

The tired younger sighed deeply, putting his face in his hands. He could hear Jules puffing out the smoke. The room was silent. He couldn't believe it, couldn't wrap his head around it, around the most crazy theory he had ever heard.

"Sirens."

The older nodded.

"Sirens."
