"Nice to meet you Mr. Kogane! I'm Lance McClain, your daughter's teacher for the year!"Lance says with a grin.

Keith feels his face begin to burn up, and he began to feel overwhelmed.

"Hi, uh, McLance, er, Mr. Clain, um-" Keith stuttered.

Lance laughed. "It's Mr. McClain."

"Wow, his laugh is so pretty." Keith thought to himself. Realizing that he was still looking at  Lance,   he cleared his throat.

"Well, my name is Mr. Kogane, so... yeah." Keith said.

"Dad! Mr. McClain already knows your name!" Kora says, slapping Keith's leg.

"Jesus Christ, why am I so awkward?" Keith thought to himself.

However, Lance just shrugged it off.

"Alright then Mr. Kogane." Lance said with a small smug grin, making sure to give a little emphasis to "Kogane". Keith's heart jumped a little.

"Well, if you'd excuse me, I should take Kora to her new seat." Lance said.

"Yeah, that's alright." Keith nodded. He bent down to Kora, and smiled.

"Kora, have fun and make some friends today, alright?" Keith said, arms outstretched for a hug.

Kora ran into his arms, and Keith enclosed her in a big bear hug. "Will do Dad!" He opened his arms again and let Kora free to follow Lance.

"Alright then, Kora! You're right here, next to Madison and Charles!" Lance points to a desk between a boy and a girl, and they turn around and wave to her.

She smiles, looks at Lance, and then looks backward to Keith.

Kora gives the biggest wave to her, and Keith waves in return.

By now, all of the students are sitting at their desks and talking to the students next to them. The parents who have dropped them off are starting to leave the classroom, one by one.

Deciding to follow them, Keith turns around, and leaves the classroom, stealing one more glance  at Lance, and at his little girl.

-

Making it back in the car, Keith heavily breathes in and out.

"What the hell was that?" He thought silently. Shaking his head to get rid of all of the thoughts of Lance, he started the engine, and then drove home.

Opening the front door of the apartment, Keith sighed. He made himself a cup of coffee in the car, and eventually made his way back into his room.

Keith's room was a mix of a bedroom, as it had a bed, but also an office, as his desk in the far corner had a computer and a stack of papers. He works as a graphic designer, and that allows him to work at home.

Changing his dress shirt and slacks into a hoodie and some sweatpants, he sighs as he plops on the chair at the desk and gets a hair clip to get his hair out of the way.

After a few hours, he finally finishes the work, and sends it to the client via email. Deciding to take a nap, he climes into bed and quickly falls asleep.

-

Ringggg. Ringggg. Ringgg.

"Man, shut up." Keith grumbles at his phone.

But the alarm kept ringing on, and eventually Keith was fed up.

Turning over on his side, he takes his phones and ends the alarm. He was about to turn over on his side again, but then he realized what the alarm was for.

"Crap! I forgot to pick up Kora!" He hisses and jumps out of bed and races out of the door, forgetting to change or even take out the hair clip in his hair.

Arriving at the school, he runs through the now deserted hallways to arrive at the homeroom. Finally slowing down as the doorway is in sight, he hears laughter from the room.

Kora and Lance's laughs.

Not wanting to disturb their time, Keith quietly peeks his head into the doorway.

The once-filled classroom is now empty, with Lance and Kora talking and laughing in the corner of the room.

"Mr. McClain, you would never have guessed what my dad did yesterday!" She said, peals of laughter escaping her.

"What did he do?" Lance said, chin in hand, leaning on the table.

"He tripped over nothing, and fell flat on his face!" Kora exclaimed, now dying of laughter.

"Oh did he? I bet it would've been really funny!" Lance smiled.

Keith, seeing all of this, was embarrassed, and stormed into the room. Kora, seeing him come in the room, squealed.

"Dad! You came!" She said, running to Keith and giving him a hug.

"Hi Princess, sorry I was late." He said. looking down at her.

Lance made his way over to the father and daughter. "Nice outfit change, Mr. Kogane!"

Keith looked down at the hoodie and the pair of sweatpants he was wearing. "Yeah, I completely forgot about picking Kora up."

"I can tell!" Lance laughed.

Keith's heart skipped a beat hearing his laugh.

"Well, anyway, thanks a lot for looking after Kora. I really appreciate it." He said, giving Lance a grateful smile.

"Yeah, no problem!" Lance bent down to Kora and held up his hand for a high-five, which Kora slapped.

"See you tomorrow, girly!" Lance said, and she beamed.

Standing up again, he faced Keith.

"And tomorrow, Mr. Kogane, please try not to be late, although I won't complain if you are." He winked, and Keith swore that his heart almost stopped.

"Yessir." Keith said a little weakly.

And with that, Keith and Kora walked out of the room, Keith asking Kora about her first day at school, and Kora asking why Keith still had the hair clip in his room.

Lance's eyes followed them, and he felt a little pang in his heart.

"Keith's wife must be so happy to have a wonderful husband and a beautiful daughter."  He thought as he saw Keith scoop Kora up in his arms.

He turned around and began to pack the room for the journey home.
