Closing the door, Lance hung his jacket on the coat hanger at the front of the apartment. He walked into his room, and put the heavy satchel on his desk.

Sighing, he plopped down on the couch, facing the TV. Lance grabbed the remote, and while flipping through the countless channels, he let his mind wander.

He thought about the students, the school, his family, everything. But the one thing that kept returning to him was the thought of Mr. Kogane and his little daughter Kora.

"Man, I can't fall for him." He thought to himself as he stood up from the couch. Heading to the kitchen, he hears a notification go off on his phone.

Pulling it out of his pocket, he sees an unusual message from an unknown number. He puts in his password to view the message.

"Hi Mr. McClain! You probably don't have my number, but this is Mr. Kogane! I was wondering if we could have a cup of coffee sometime? I would really like to thank you for taking of Kora today."

Lance's face flushed, and he immediately responded.

"Hello! I would love to get coffee with you! Is tomorrow afternoon okay with you?"

Within no time, his phone buzzed again.

"Of course! However, Kora won't be able to make it tomorrow; she's going to her mom's place tomorrow."

He lifted an eyebrow.

"Wait, so he's divorced?"

"Ah, what a shame! But of course that's okay!" Lance sent back with a smile.

"Alright then, I'll see you tomorrow!"

"See you then :)"

Turning his phone off with a content sigh, he walks back into his room and over to his desk stacked high with papers. He picks up a blue pen (never a red pen, because he thinks red is so basic of teachers) and begins to grade the alphabet sheets scribbled over with messy handwriting.

-

"Alright class, are you almost done with your coloring sheets?" Lance said, peering over the kids shading in numbered spaces.

A wide array of noises came from the kids, and he laughed.

"I'll give you five more minutes, and once you're done, come up to me and show me it! I'll give you a prize if you're done!" He grins, holding a bag of chocolate in the air.

"Mr. McClain, please save one for me! I'm not done!"

"Are those Kit Kats?"

"My crayon just broke!"

Laughing once again, he puts down the bag on his desk.

"Alright Leah, I'll save you one. Michael, if you want one of the Kit Kats, you have to finish first, and what color crayon do you need Eve?"

As the commotion in the classroom begins to dampen a little bit, Lance looks outside of the door and notices that the parents have begun to collect outside.

Walking over to the door, he welcomes the parents in, and they all go to their respective children, and one by one, all the kids come up to him to get a treat, give him a goodbye hug, and leave with their parents.

As the crowd of parents and kids began to thin, Lance noticed Keith crouched over at Kora's desk, and talking to her. Wanting to say hi to Kora, Lance made his way over to her desk but overheard their conversation.

"...I'm really sorry Kora, but you have to go. It's Friday, and you know you go over to her house on the weekends." Keith said gently to her.

"I really don't want to go Dad, I don't want to be with her today." Kora tilted her head up with her arms crossed.

Feeling intrusive, Lance began to back up, but Keith noticed him.

"Mr. McClain! It's nice to meet you yet again." He stood up to shake Lance's hand.

"Me too, Mr. Kogane." He said with his signature smile. He crouches down to Kora's level, and gave her a high five.

"I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I heard that you have to go to your mom's house today?" Lance said to Kora, to which she viciously nodded.

"I really don't want to go, Mr. McClain. Can you tell my dad?" She said with her biggest puppy eyes.

Oh god, not the puppy eyes.

"Aw Kora, you know I can't-" He started, but she interrupted.

"Please?? My dad really likes you so I'm sure he's going to listen to you!" She said, with her puppy eyes again.

His face heating up, Lance abruptly stood up to face Keith, who was facing away.

"So, Mr. Kogane, is it really true that you like me a lot?" He questioned mischievously, praying that Keith can't see that his face is now a bright red.

Keith still looking away, clears his throat. "It's not that I like you a lot, it's just that... I respect you a lot."

Lance grins yet again and decides on a bet.

"Say Mr. Kogane, how about we bring Kora to the coffee shop? I know that she eventually has to go to her mom's house, but what if we let her have a little more quality time with her favorite dad?" He says, looking down at Kora.

Keith thought about it for a while, and then nodded.

"Okay, only a little longer."

"Alright!" Lance bends down yet again to see Kora's huge smile. She motions Lance to bring his face a little closer to her, and she cups her hands around his ear.

"Thanks so much Mr. McClain!" She whispers excitedly into his ear, making it tingle.

Laughing, Lance stands up, and takes her hand. Looking at Keith, he smiles yet again.

"Alright, let's go to the coffee shop!"
