Levi drives me down the dark, winding roads. Roads I've never been on before.
"Can you tell me where we're going now?" I ask softly.
"Not yet." He puts a hand on my knee and squeezes firmly. I blush, thankful he can't see me.
I stare out the window trying to adjust my vision but all I see is a dark blur.
The trip seems to go on for an eternity before he finally pulls off somewhere. "We're here." He smiles at me.
"I can't see anything." I frown back at him. "Don't worry, I've got you. Come on." He motions for me to follow him.
When I step out of the car and walk around front, Levi slips my hand into his. I look down at our hands and feel my face burn something fierce. I'm so nervous. I look up into the darkness and take a deep breath. He will protect me, it's going to be ok.
As we walk further I'm able to make out a house in the distance. It's so dark it almost looks abandoned.
"Whose house is that?" My voice is shaky when I ask, I wonder if he can tell I'm nervous.
"Mine." He says simply.
"Why do you live out in the middle of no where? Aren't you afraid?"
"Afraid of what?" He chuckles.
He's so mysterious. I look at him as he continues to lead me to the house.
When we get there he opens the door and turns on the lights. It doesn't look so scary and abandoned anymore.
It's like any other normal house I've seen. We walk inside and he motions toward a couch. "Have a seat. Are you thirsty? Can I get you something to drink?"
I shake my head no and continue looking around the room. It's decorated so comfortably. I sit back into the couch.
"How have I never been at your house before?" I ask loudly so he can hear me. He comes from the kitchen with a cigar and a glass full of what appears to be wine. Fancy.
"I hardly bring anyone to my house." He sips from his glass.
"Why not? It's such a lovely home. It's cozy and quaint." I smile.
He picks up the cigar, his finger touching the end of it. It ignites without any sort of match or lighter.
"How did you.." I'm unable to finish my sentence. The words just leave me, as if they'd been taken before I could form them on my tongue. "Are you cold?" He asks, smiling warmly. I can't manage to say anything. I just nod in reply.
He walks over to the fireplace and starts a small fire. Again, I see no match or lighters to help him.
"Levi, I have to tell you something." It comes out of me quickly.
"Let me tell you something first, it's very important." He sits back down, takes another sip from his glass and interlaces his fingers.
"Billie, we've been friends for as long as I can remember." Oh god, what is he going to say. I can't look at him, I can only stare at the almost magical fire that radiated massive heat waves onto my face. As if I were sitting right next to it, yet it was so far from me. Sweat beads began forming on the back of my neck. I glance to Levi, he looks completely dry and comfortable. How is he not sweating? The fire, it's so incredibly hot. I felt as though I was in a trance that I couldn't come out of. Then, just like that, I felt his hand touch my arm and it was like everything was fine again. Instead I only felt slightly warm and I was able to look away from the fire.
"Billie, are you ok? You seemed to disappear on me there for a second."
I look into his eyes and saw that there was a glow to them. It was a deep red and it was moving as if it were dancing. Dancing with the fire.
I closed my eyes tightly and shook my head. I was unsure as to what was happening but I wanted to snap out of it.
When I opened them again everything was normal. Levi's eyes were the normal deep brown color id come to love.
I had really hoped someone didn't slip something into my beer.
"Come on, lets go upstairs." I laid my hand in his palm and let him lead me. His hands were huge, it made mine feel like they were the size of a child's.
We headed up the steps to a long stretch of dark corridor. He flipped a light switch and the low hum of the electricity entered my ears as they flickered on. "This way." He said as he guided me.
We entered a room that I assumed was his bedroom. I sat down on his bed as he sat in a desk chair across from me. He studied my face carefully. "As I was saying," he continued. "There's something I've been meaning to tell you for a while now. I just needed to find the right time." My phone vibrated in my pocket but I felt like I needed to listen to what he had to say so I ignored it.
"Billie," He looked deep into my eyes. I saw the dancing flames appear again as he spoke.
"Wait." I didn't let him finish. "At the party, when things got out of hand, did you mean to call me yours." My heart raced in my chest. I'm not sure how I found the courage in myself to ask him. It's like it was being forced out of me.
"That's why I brought you here billie." He said firmly. "I've been meaning to tell you something for a very long time. I think you're ready to hear it." He grabbed my hand slowly and softly.
"Billie, I've chosen you." I looked at him, confused.
"Chosen me? for what?"
He gripped my hand tighter and stared deeper into my eyes. The dancing flames became more apparent and thrashed about as he spoke.
"I've chosen you, to stay by my side for eternity." His hands began to feel increasingly warmer. "Leviathan, what on earth are you talking about?"
"Billie, I'm what you mortals call," he paused "the fallen angel. I've obtained many names. Leviathan is only one." His hands burned against my skin. I was so confused. He sounded insane. Was he on drugs?
"Levi, you aren't making any sense. You're starting to scare me." I tried to pull my hands away but he only held them tighter. Then he let go. I pulled my hands towards my body and rubbed them to try and make the burning sensation go away. He looked to the ground for a moment then back up at me. "I saw you question the cigar, and the fire. I saw it on your face. You've seen the flames within my soul." He stared at me for what felt like an eternity. "Let me show you what I really am." He spoke in a deep voice. Deeper than humanly possible yet it was as if it was only a whisper. He stood up slowly and turned away from me.
I crawled away from him to the back of his bed. I was afraid, unsure as to what I'd gotten myself into.
His skin turned to a deep blood red and his clothes began flaking off in pieces as he grew to unimaginable size. His arms and legs became inhumanly muscular. Small stubs that were as black as the night scratched and clawed their way out of his back, turning into big, bat-like wings. His fingernails turned long and pointed like large knives on the tips of his fingers. A large and long whip-like tail shot out of his lower back like a bullet.
The room became a million degrees hotter in an instant, almost as if it had always been that way. The walls started to melt and turn to charred dust. The only things that remained the same were me and the bed I'd been sitting on. I began to sweat profusely, suffocating as I tried to breathe in the hot, dusty air. As the creature turned around I knew the leviathan that had brought me here was long gone. I trembled and tried not to cry as my lungs struggled to keep me going.
When it faced me I took in its features all at once. The long, thick, protruding horns upon its head, the razor sharp gnarly teeth, and the eyes. My god, the eyes. They were empty sockets that blinded me as they stared into my soul.
I was unable to speak, I could only choke and tremble as I gazed upon the majestic, terrifying beast. I closed my eyes, wishing it all away. Please, please. I thought please make this all go away. I want to go home.
Screams of torment and horror flooded my head. I could hear the billions of cries and pleas of people being tortured as I tried to cover my ears. This was like something out of a nightmare. A terrible, traumatizing nightmare. I shook my head and continued squeezing my eyes shut. I'm dreaming. This is all just one, big, terrible, lucid nightmare.
Then, just as quickly as it had come, it all went away. I slowly opened my eyes and uncovered my ears. Leviathan sat across from me with a look of consideration across his face.
"Are you ok?" He asks, concerned.
"Am I ok? What the fuck just happened Levi?! Did you give me some fucking drugs?!" My heart pounded in my chest. I took deep breaths trying to grasp the concept of what just happened.
"I needed you to see that, Billie." He put his hands in his lap.
"I could've gone my whole fucking life without seeing that. You scared the shit out of me. I thought I was dying."
He just continued to look at me, seeming as if he wasn't phased at all.
"It's not going to be as bad once you're like me." He states plainly.
"Like you? What the fuck are you talking about?" I become angry at how little he seems to care. "Billie, my kind doesn't fall in love. We don't care about stupid things like that. But something about you changed something in me." He rolls his chair closer to the bed. I press my body against the wall, terrified it might happen again. "I want you to come with me, I want to make you my queen."
Tears began to form in my eyes and I could feel the lump in my throat forming. "Levi I want to go home."
I say shakily. "Now."
"I get it, you need time to think it over. You humans always were a silly bunch." He laughs, but his laugh sounds deep, inhuman, demonic.
"Did you want to tell me what you are going to tell me when we got here?" He says this like he already knew what I was going to say. "I don't know." I look down at my hands.
"Come on, I'll take you home. No funny business. Just you and me. I promise." He seems genuine. I slowly and carefully get off of the bed. He then leads me out to the car and opens the door for me. "Thanks." I say plainly. "I think I just need to sleep off."
When we arrive at my house he puts his hand on my thigh. I'm unsure how I feel about it. Part of me wants to shove it off immediately but I resist the urge and look at his face. "I apologize for scaring you tonight. I just needed you to see that." He looks admirably at my face and smiles softly.
"Why?"
"Because, I've chosen you. That means that I have to show you the real deal in order for this to work. I already know you can handle it. But I have to get you used to it first." He squeezes my thigh firmly.
"Go ahead, think it over. You know how to reach me."
He rubs my leg gently and then puts his hand back on the steering wheel. I get out of the car and am overwhelmed by the feeling of relief as I watch him drive off. As soon as he's around the corner where I know he can't see me anymore I make a mad dash for the house. I run straight up the stairs and into my room, locking the door.
Everything hits me at once. I fall apart on my bed and break down in a fit of tears. I'm still unsure as to what happened as I curl up in a ball under my blanket. I close my eyes and drift off to sleep.
