A few days after his 7th birthday, Izuku had harsh mood swings and was the centre of certain occurrences in school. One day while running down the street, away from his bullies, he saw things at the edge of the road flying away from him. The other day, at home, he turned invisible for 10 minutes and turned back to normal when he heard his parents come home.
The mood swings weren't too bad but, one second he was feeling happy and the next second he was feeling anger. It took him a week to figure out that those emotions weren't his own, as he automatically felt anger when he was near Bakugou, instead of his usual fear.
It was already three years since the quirk examination and honestly, his parents started to lose hope. Izuku tried telling about these occurrences to his mother, Inko but he wasn't able to prove it. He guessed his mother's emotions perfectly but, his eyes weren't glowing when he did it and Inko thought she was probably being too expressive. The emotions at home weren't strong at all for Izuku to demonstrate something, since he didn't have good enough grasp on them.
Inko tried staying hopeful for her son's quirk. But she didn't want to have unreal expectations for him. So what if he didn't have a quirk? That wouldn't change anything. But deep down she knew that the world wouldn't accept him. Toshinori would jump at the first chance to go searching for a successor if she gave up. But she couldn't keep lying to herself.
So when Izuku came to her about his quirk, she was excited! She could prove Toshinori wrong after all! But when she couldn't see any glow, she felt disappointed. Izuku looked sad, could he really feel her emotions? This thought was quickly put to rest because she didn't think that her son could have a simple quirk like that, nor could he have an E ranked quirk since their family never had quirks lower than B.
She never brought that incident up to Toshinori because she feared what he'd put Izuku through to make him go through a forced quirk activation. It mostly caused trauma, and people who went through that would mostly never be able to control their quirk, as it would remind them of it every time they used their quirk.
The last few years hadn't been easy on him and he was getting desperate. All for One was on the rise with no lead on him.
She hoped that her decisions would benefit his future.
Since that one fateful day, when he overheard his parents talking, he was getting better at hiding his own emotions. Lying came easy to him when learnt to read people. His father had started going on longer missions, coming home late on most of the days. He wouldn't even come home for days sometimes. It was like he was trying to avoid him, but his mother insisted otherwise.
A few days passed by and he finally understood his quirk. He decided that he wouldn't bring it up in front of them, as he knew how they felt about him. A quirk does not define a person and it never will.
He wanted to prove himself to them. He wanted to become a true hero. A hero with clean intentions in and out. Though the real question was, how much longer would he be able to stand the treatment he was getting from his family and friends?
