"I think the strangest thing was that he seemed to know my name," Zoe admits, looking at the floor. "He called me Zoe when I distinctly remember telling him my full name."
"Perhaps he assumed the nickname?" Mike suggests, and Zoe tried hard not to blow up at him.
"I've thought about that. But, later, one of the soldiers called me 'Ms. P' as in Miss Pelletier, which is my last name." Zoe had no idea why she was spilling all of these details to this boy she had met not long ago. Maybe it was because she had gone so long without another person that it was just a relief on her soul to get this off her chest. Two heads are better than one, after all. That's what everyone used to say, anyway. That's what her mom used to say.
Zoe looks away from Mike, tapping her thumbs together. "What are you thinking?" She asks the boy.
