"(Y/N), there's a monkey in your hair."
You notched an eyebrow questioningly at your boyfriend before tilting your head slightly; messy hair and monkey moving with the motion.
"Yeah... and?"
Yoongi peered at the monkey in irritation for a moment before tearing his eyes away.
"Nothing."
You shrugged and went back to writing in your journal as Jeb continued his quest to find something in your hair. Yoongi huffed and poked the fire a bit; biting his inner cheek in irritation at your companion.
It had been a week since the two of you had been in a relationship, and just as luck would have it, a week since you'd adopted your new pet. Yoongi didn't care for it in the slightest of course and had only initially allowed it's presence due to it's potential to be a meal, but to his dismay you became very attached to it.
Wherever you went, Jeb went too. He couldn't be alone with you anymore, and every time he tried, he was immediately made aware of the third presence watching him intently with beady eyes and bared teeth. He considered the monkey a demon. And the feeling was mutual.
The monkey didn't care for Yoongi much either, and at times you had had to stop Jeb from attacking him.
"BOYS! Stop fighting!" You had scolded; Yoongi angrily whirling your way after almost having his hair pulled out by the thing.
"Fighting?! He attacked me!"
"Yoongi! You're scaring Jeb!" You protested, holding the monkey tight and patting it's head as it chirped cheerfully. Yoongi found he could only roll his eyes and walk away; angrily thinking of the possible dishes one could make from the animal.
As much as Yoongi disliked the monkey, it wasn't what was on his mind the most. He was constantly wondering and debating on how things should be now that your relationship was different and... whither or not he was doing it right.
Yoongi wasn't so sure when it came to dating. He hadn't done much of it, and certainly hadn't anticipated doing it on a deserted island. For the most part, things hadn't exactly changed. Every day you both still went about your daily tasks. You still messed with each other and bickered. Beyond that, it was mostly little things and the fact that Yoongi did his best to keep his promise. He didn't push you away but rather constantly looked for ways to bring you closer. This was the biggest difference, and it was one that you loved just as much as you hoped you would.
The relationship was one hesitantly built with the prospect of the unknown future. Yoongi didn't know how long the two of you would be on the island and he didn't know how it would end. He just knew it would. It was more than possible you would both die, or, you could be rescued. Both options however would result in an ending, and one he didn't want.
However, with this uncertainty came determination. He wanted you to be happy, and he wanted to be a good boyfriend while he could and had the dwindling time. Even if it didn't come naturally and it was awkward, he vowed to do his best... without going too far of course.
Every night after you both went to sleep and Yoongi had pointedly glared at the monkey in your hammock that he could have sworn was supposed to be banned, he would just look at you and think.
He thought about the future, the present, and the past. He wondered how you had ended up liking him and vice versa. He also wondered what might have happened if he hadn't volunteered to take you on the boat, or if he had managed to safely navigate the Adonis out of the storm.
Thinking about you being married in unwanted but necessary circumstances made his blood boil sometimes, even if it hadn't yet happened and may not happen at all. This feeling only intensified when he looked at you and watched you smile. You smiled all the time in fact, which was one of his favorite things about you.
