Phil

I arrived at the park a little before the time where we were supposed to meet. I walked over to the swings, avoiding the mud at puddles in my path. I landed myself on one of the middle swing and push myself off of the ground, lifting myself higher and higher into the air.

"P-Phil?" I heard a familiar voice call. I jumped out of the swingers, almost falling over in the process.

"Oh- hey.. Dan." I straightened my posture up.

Dan stayed at least six feet away from me, looking as if he was scared to get near me. "What did you want to talk about?" He asked.

Truth was, I didn't need to talk about anything. I just wanted to see him again, and maybe see him smile again.

"I- um w-well" I stuttered out.

"So, you called me, and made me come down town, so you can stutter at me?" Dan snapped.

"No! I want to talk to you. I just, I don't know how." I sat back down on the swing, groaning. I heard Dan take a seat in the swing to the right of me. I miss you. I wanted to say. My mind was racing, telling me to say it.

" I miss you." I said quietly, to where I couldn't even hear it.

Dan sat there, kicking his feet at the gravel below, creating a unknown picture. "I'm sorry." He said. I looked up, questions flowing through my head. "I pushed you away when you were just trying to help me."

He's sorry? I'm the one who ignored him.

"I got mad at you- no, myself, only because you stopped talking to me for a couple of days."

What? I'm literally the one who avoided you.

"And I know your blaming yourself." My eyes shot up. I could already feel my cheeks heating up. I looked over to Dan, who had a grin on his face, not big, but big enough to see his dimple.

"Well yeah, because it was my fault. Not yours."

We sat there for a minute, not saying anything. It wasn't uncomfortable, it was peaceful. The silence was ruined when we heard a grumble. Dan looked down to his stomach. "S-sorry, I haven't eaten today." He shrugged. I reached into my pocket, to find a unopened Snickers bar.

"Here" I handed him the candy bar.

"Thanks." Dans phone beeped, saying he had a text. "Shit." He whispered. "I have to run. Uh... text me later?" I nodded before he turned around and shuffled away. I looked down where he was sitting, and looked where he was doodling with his feet. The unknown picture soon became clear, he had drawn a heart. I smiled to myself.

At least we are talking again. I said in my head.
