Chapter 9

Liam pulls out his laptop, placing it on the table with Scott and Kira's.

"Is three enough?" Kira ask.

"Depends on how many cameras they have. But I think so."

"Are we really doing this?" Liam says.

"We're doing it. Tonight."

"But isn't it kind of dangerous?"

"It's incredibly dangerous.

And borderline idiotic."

"Have you guys done something like this before?"

"Something dangerous? Or something idiotic?"

"I think it's a yes to both." I say.

"You don't have to be part of it if you don't want to." Scott says to Liam.

"I'm not scared."

"Then you're borderline idiotic." Stiles says, placing a hand on Liam's shoulder then taking it off quickly.

"If we do this, we don't know what's coming for us. You know that, right?" He continues.

"How do we even know something's definitely coming?"

"Because the tape from Garrett's bag said visual confirmation required." Scott says to Kira.

"Simon said the same thing.

He couldn't get paid by The Benefactor until he had proof that you guys were dead."

"So the idea is, what if you kill someone on the dead pool, but you can't send the proof?"

"You don't get paid." I shake my head.

"But how does that get us any closer to The Benefactor?" Liam asks, looking at each one of us.

"He still needs to know if the target is really dead."

"Especially if it's someone high on the list."

"So, if he wants visual confirmation.." Liam begins.

Scott finishes the sentence, "He's going to have to come get it himself."

"Are you guys totally sure about this?" Liam asks, pacing around the room.

Scott lays onto the bed, as Kira and Mrs. Yukimura crowd around him.

"I think Liam's kind of nervous. Maybe you should tell him it's going to be all right." Kira says, looking down at Scott as he gives her a smile.

"It's going to be all right."

"So, you've done this before, right?" Liam asks Mrs. Yukimura, his voice shaky.

"I've seen it done." She responds.

"Is that just as good?"

"No."

I sigh out as I grab Liam's hand, rubbing my thumb across his hand to sooth him down.

He relaxes and wraps his arm around me, pulling me close to his body.

"Mom, you're not inspiring confidence."

"Good. This is a terrible idea."

"Do you want us to do it without you?" I ask her.

We all look at each other, already knowing the answer.
