Author's note: hey guys! This is my first book. Don't hesitate to tell me about any mistakes I may have made or any new chapter ideas. Hope you guys enjoy! It's not horror don't worry :)

I set the last of the boxes down on the floor with a thud.

"That's the last of them." I held a hand to my back, rubbing at the places that were sore from carrying around all the moving boxes.

My family and I had just moved to a new town, and while I would have preferred to not move at all, dad had gotten a better job as a professor at a university so we had. Even then, I could not deny that I was a bit excited at the thought of a new beginning.

My room looked out over the backyard, which at the moment had long, unmowed grass which overlooked the flower beds that had long since grown weeds. There was a massive, oak tree in the corner of the garden that threw shade over a small set of tweed chairs.

That's where I had a feeling I would be spending most of my time, my book and I that is.

I guess I should unpack.

The first box I opened had my clip up fairy lights, which I strung over my bed post, pegging on small polaroids that I had printed of my friends, parents and myself.

The next had clothes which I promptly hung up in my cupboard. Not many of those.

I was taking out my underwear, a particularly racy, red lace one to be accurate, when I felt a cold breeze caress my exposed legs. I was wearing shorts.

Must be the open window, I looked over to confirm my suspicions but it was firmly shut and bolted.

That's strange.

I shrugged, putting on my headphones and playing music as I unpacked the rest of my belongings.

Tomorrow was the first day of school for me and I wanted to make sure I made a good first impression on everyone.

I pulled out a light blue denim skirt, fitted yellow and orange sweater and black, sheer leggings out from my wardrobe, pairing the clothes with black combat boots. Perfect.

By the time I was done unpacking, the sun had gone down and the sky had gone dark.

The wooden stairs creaked as I hopped down. Everything in this house was so old.

"How long till dinner?" I heard my dad question from the living room.

"Come set the table, it's almost ready." My mom called out in reply from the kitchen.

I decided to go help with the table. All the plates were still bubble wrapped, and I popped the air bubbles, fascinated with the satisfaction, while dad rummaged through another carton looking for glasses and cutlery.

Mom brought out a large dish of lasagna and put it in the center of the four seater table.

"It looks delicious, Mom"

"Thanks honey, I didn't make it though, the Petersons dropped it off while you were upstairs." She said with nonchalance. Did I know any Petersons?

"The Petersons?" Who were they?

"The sweet family next door, our new neighbours."

"They saw the moving truck parked outside and thought they'd chip in and help out, nice folks." Dad added.

"I invited them over for dinner tomorrow, they have a son your age who goes to the same school you'll be going to." Mom chirped with a smile. She was always happy.

I didn't reply but merely smiled. A friend before school started would be nice, a familiar face when I start with a bunch of strangers.

It was times like this that I missed Jessie, my best friend before we moved. We'd been friends since we met in pre-school, so she had become more like a sister over the years. Mom and Dad saw her as their second child too so she'd really become a part of the family.

I decided to head back up to my room after dinner, maybe open up a book and start reading or maybe I'd watch a show on Netflix before I headed to bed. I wasn't much of a sleeper, I usually slept in the early hours of the morning.

I'd been settled into bed with my laptop propped up against a cushion, and had plugged in my headphones when the creepiest thing happened.

All my books that I had so carefully organised on the bookshelf in my room earlier, started to fall off.

One by one.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

Freaking out was an understatement. I was paralyzed with fear.

Books don't randomly fall out of shelves. Was it paranormal activity? My heart was racing. I opened my mouth to scream but nothing came out.

Then I heard it.

A laugh.

Not a maniacal, hysterical kind of laugh, like that of a circus clown, but that of a young man, cheerful, cheeky but definitely not innocent.

"Hello! Is anyone there?" I heard myself squeak. I was petrified. My room had suddenly seemed to have gotten darker.

What's wrong with me? I'm seeing things now aren't I?

Oh my god.

And then I saw him.

At first it was just a shadow of light, but then it seemed to brighten into appearance. A figure, arms, legs, a whole body.

In the middle of my room, there stood a young boy, not overly young but more like my age. Masculine yet he seemed to have an endearing innocence about him.

Never mind that.

There was a stranger in my room.

He just appeared out of thin air.

I should be yelling for my parents, for help, but I found myself stopping myself.

Who was he? Where did he come from? Why is he here? What does he want?

Author's note: Oh my god! That's the first part of the story complete. I know it's not amazing and mind boggling but I'm still excited for someone to read it! Anyway, if you like it leave a comment or vote, or don't do anything at all. Anything goes.
